Gas bill headache

Hi, I am expecting large gas bill to pay soon,as we have lived in our home 2 years and despite contacting the supplier on several occasions, have never since sept 06 had a gas bill, the supplier who seems to be oblivious to me is Eon,the meter reading shows we owe for 4900 units kwh?? or something, any one shed any light on how much this may cost????

Oh and would there be a discount on this as we take electric from eon also.

They can only charge your for 12 months if they have never produced a bill. Most companies if you have both fuels may give you a dual fuel allowance.

The 4900 units will convert to either 53900kwh (metric meter) or 154350kwh (imperial meter).
For your sake I hope it is a metric meter so the cost at a typical 3p per kwh would be £1617 which would be a bit above average for 2 years usage.
However as has been pointed out above, if you have not been billed they can only bill you for one years usage which should halve the bill.

Just seen your last post. Yes the energy companies have agreed (with energywatch or Ofgem?) that only one year will be billed in those circumstances.

The meter was apparently new 3 yrs ago,if that helps,so is it more likely to be metric?

Yes almost certainly metric, you can tell by looking at it , if metric it will say m3 on it if imperial cu ft.

Update, today to add insult to injury I have had a bill for both gas and electricity, on a bill number that we do not know, asking for £3500, for gas and electric since 2006, well I have been paying over £100 a month for electricity into our eon account, but as you know no gas, the account number is completely different to ours and the address is really strangely written,it is in our name and looks like we have been supplying the whole of the village!!!!

I am sooooo fed up of trying to sort this out,only last year did I sort out the electricity,after the idiot property developer we brought from treid to stiff us for his electric. Now this, Anyway,I rang eons complaints line and a guy asked for meter barcodes etc, and said my account readings were in keeping with what I had been paying for electric, but asked for gas details and Itold him about contacting them and no bills for 2 years,now this HUGE BILL. He said we would have to pay for what we had used nevertheless, whether we had told them no bills or not!!!! I then said I knew my rights and I thought that if I had not been contacted still after all this time that I only paid for 1 yrs gas, he said this was rubbish and didnt apply as I did not meet the criteria???????? What is the criteria?????? Any way I got very cross and am having a call from a SPECIALIST!!! MMM , ON MONDAY, well see what happens, sounds like a mighty !!!! up, only my hubby and I at home!!Surely, after all this time wasted tried to sort this out over 2 yrs, we are in line for a least a bit of compensation???
What shall I do contact onbudsman anyway???

So what are the kwh (and meter readings) on the gas bill, we may be able to give you some ammunition for monday. I presume the £3500 is just for the gas, and the £100 month you have been paying for electric has covered that bill (although that seems a lot of electric in a house that also uses gas)
Stick to your guns on the "1 year" front. There are more knowledgible people on here who may help with the technical details.
I should wait til Monday to see what the specialists say being going to energywatch.

Hi thanks for your reply, my readings actual for my meters are 4900 units gas, and 2500 day electric 500 evening/rate2 electric.
This is what i currently owe for.
The strange bill not my meter number is for 15436 units day Rate, and 3661 night electric. and 5540 for gas.

You can see why I thought I was lighting the street!!!

1 year rule-this doesnt apply in change of tenacy else noone would notify suppliers when they moved-also bills may had been going to previous developers address builders accounts
