I cant believe that when i was five their was none of this wii or ds availible

I wish they were around when I was a kid as well :rotfl:
In the 80's Santa brought me a Spectrum ZX+3......when I think of the graphics on that and how long it took to load...jeez!!! :rotfl:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. IMO I wouldnt get ds for children of that age however I would buy a wii for all the family. I think anything that promotes family fun is better than indervidual enjoyment.
I would be slightly concered that if they have one at this age by the time they are a teenager they are going to want all sorts of "lazy" games as so to speak as there is no fitness involved and to me it probily means they will spend all there time in there bedroom as you arnt going to want the lounge cluttered with all these games IMO.
I am much more into pushbikes etc for kids as I prefere things that encourage activness (because I dont want them to be like me I hate all sports but make myself do it for them!)
I probily wouldnt decorate there bedrooms as a present however I would (if they have been asking) buy the accesories for xmas, like football mat or football light etc
If you are worried about space you could try something we do which is before xmas about a week we go through toys with kids and say father xmas wont delivery anything if they dont give some of there toys to the children that dont have toys then also boxing day or day after we go through toys again and see what they will get rid of with encouragment (oviously we wouldnt make them get rid of anything we know they play with) we find they are more willing to recycle the toys when they have there new xmas ones!!
I hope this helps.Running challenge 2014 = 689k / 800k0 -
In my opinion, your children are not too young for the DS, my two have had gadgets since they were your childrens ages, my youngest has had his DS for 3 years now and he is 9 and still uses it, I don't have the Wii, only cause it doesn't come in silver to coordinate with my television:rotfl: I find my children use all the gadgets they have, DS each, laptop each, PSP& ps3. I can't rate these things high enough for learning to read instructions and for improving concentration levels. (btw, my children also love playing out and are not obese before anyone assumes they are).
I would get your husband a torch or a set of screwdrivers for christmas
, I think he is being slightly mean.

We got a Wii last August have had got the Wii fit and have ordered the new Wii mat thingy thats coming out. And while it is really good for the kids sometime they do want to play different games. I got my kids DD 5 and DS 4 a DS each for there birthdays this year- they had played mine previously and requested one. I limit the time they spend on them, but I think they are old enough for them and they enjoy them. So IMHO I would buy the kids one for xmas.0

My son is 4 and plays on his dad's DS for the odd 10 minuites and in unusual circumstances; i will take it to the airport next week.
I wouldn't allow him to have one of his own though mainly because the screen is very small and i'm not happy about the way he cranes to see properly and hunches over it.
Ask your husband if the girls can have a new carpet for their birthday LOL the old meanie."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
I'm in my 40's and am still not impressed that I had a fountain pen for my 12th birthday (was needed for my new school and had to wait for birthday-good job it's September, don't know what they've had done if it had been July:rolleyes: ) and a duvet and cover for my 14th. Though the 2nd I did request, I hated sheets and blankets even then.:p So I'm with the not decorating their rooms for xmas.
On the subject of a ds. My son got one for his 8th birthday and it has been one of the best things he's ever had. Certainly one he has played with a lot, unlike many other toys. My 5 yo daughter has asked for one for xmas, but I'm border-line as to whether she is too young to get same enjoyment out of it as her brother does. It will totally depend on the child.0 -
I agree with many of the other posters about getting something like a Wii that perhaps all of you could enjoy together if you really want to introduce them to that kind of technology.
As for giving them bunk beds for Christmas, I'm afraid that's stingy in my book. As parents you should be supplying the beds for your children to sleep on, not making it one of their christmas presents. I can pretty much guarantee it will be thought of in years to come as the worst present they ever received.
What next? Will your hubby be charging them for sofa space? As in "your mother and I were going to get a couple of new two seater sofas, but think you should have one of them as a christmas present as you'll be sitting on it?""carpe that diem"0
