My kids aged 4 and 6 have asked for a ds for xmas. This suits me as we're expecting another baby and I dont want to buy them mountains of toys to clutter the house up when we need all the space we can get.
However - OH (who is computer mad btw!) is saying that they are too young for this and that as they are having their bedroom decorated and new bunk beds this should be their xmas pressie.
This seems abit mean to me.
We'd obv get them a few little bits as well - and they do get alot from other people. In fact - they hardly play with the toys they've got which is why we thought we'd scale down our gifts this year and just get them one thing, plus stocking fillers.
But thier bedroom decorating?!
He wants to work on it so that it can be revealed on xmas morning (putting them into the box room together aaargh!) which is quite sweet but seems like alot of hassle and stress in the run up to xmas when I'd rather just have them cosy in their own beds.
Anyway - what do you guys think. I'd rather they have a ds - are they too young? Does anyone have youngsters with one?

What about getting a WII between all of the family for Xmas! Best family invention for years IMO. DS is something they will be bored with after 2 weeks.0

I agree. I think they are too young for the DS, but the Wii is fab & you will all enjoy it, & it's much more sociable.
BTW, santa doesn't ever decorate for xmas, but he does sometimes send bunk beds.

I agree too, they are a bit young for that kind of gift and a Wii can be enjoyed by all the family.
My reasons are that at that age such gifts well.....imagine what they will be like when older and want the latest gadget.
tbh i bought DS a ds a few years ago and its now collecting dust in a cupboard because he plays games on his pc now.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
maybe - OH isnt keen on a wii either though - he's a ps3 man through and through. Will look into it though as i quite fancied a wii fitMANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

our daughter, aged 4, has a ds which her grandad bought for her. at the time i thought it was spoilng her but she does use it alot. it has a r4 ds card in it with a 2gb memory card so aswell as having around 30 games on it (all free of charge), it also has about 25 of her favourite songs aswell as high school musical 2 (the film) on it! so it keeps her entertained whenever she needs it. i must admit, if it didnt have the r4 ds card and we had to buy each individual game, it would more than likely be gathering dust too.

at 4 and 6 isnt really to young for a ds my son had one last year when he was 4 and has played with it constantly ,a wii takes a lot of setting up and with a new baby on the way this may not be practical they do lots of ds games from age 3 up .
but i agree doing up their room isnt really a present is he the kind of guy who buy's lots of practical gift's for xmas
imagine your kids faces when they wake up christmas morning and get that as a gift they are to young to understand that santa painted there room as a pressie they will be disapointed0 -
DD got a DS when she was five, but didn't really play with it til she was 5 1/2, 6. She really enjoys the brain training, puppy thing (whatever its called) and cooking mama amongst others.
We also got a Wii for the family at christmas, and everyone enjoys that.
So, i'd recommend both.0 -
My 5 year old son, has a ds and has played on and off with it since he got it last year. Find it really good for car Journeys where he will sit quietly for hours playing away.
As myself and husband are really into computer games we also have a wii and a ps2. I find the benfit of the ds above the others is that when you dont want them to play the computer the Ds can quickly and easily disapear into a top cupboard.
The main down fall with the Ds is a few of the younger games do require you to be able to read, such as pokemon. Just need to check amazon when your buying the games to make sure that they are suitable for non readers.0
