Toucan - awful service!

I'm posting this on behalf of my friend. She signed up to their broadband about a month ago as she has her line rental with them. They sent her through a modem to set it all up, but she has a wireless laptop which she wouldn't have been able to use wirelessly with this particular modem. She called them to ask if they have a standard router or wireless router that she could have instead, the guy was very nice on the phone (I even spoke to him) and he said he would send a wireless router out.

This was 2 weeks ago and it's still not arrived. By this point they have started charging her even though she hasn't even used or set-up the broadband.

She has called them today to cancel the agreement, they haven't sent her the router and have just not been helpful at all. They have told her that she cannot cancel and she would be liable for the contract, which works out to £180...

I would fight it, but she doesn't have anymore energy for it... what does everyone think here, does she have a case?

Oh aren't you full of helpful advice.

When she signed up they told her she would receive a wireless router, what they have sent is a non-wireless modem, it's not even a standard router!! Yes she can get herself a different router but why should she when they agreed to send her out one in the first place?!

I have been with toucan for four years now without any problems, for my line rental, broadband and call package, it seems to me some people expect something for nothing. (After reading previous post). The only gripe I have with toucan, is, they have changed their freephone number to a ripoff 0870 number.

I phoned Toucan (Part of Tiscalli I think) to get a MAC code, they asked me who I would be moving to and I said O2 for 7.50pmonth. They then offered Line Rental, 8Meg unlimited (not even fair usage policy), free weekend and evening calls for £14.98, with the first 3 months free. I was still a bit sceptical because in the past I had to phone their 30p per minute tech support number when my broadband was down, but that fee's dropped to 5p/min apparently and I haven't had a problem for over a year now.
