Been reading on here a few threads by people really worried about telling parents / kids about going BR.
Just wondered if anyone has got away with not telling anyone.
I don't see that it is anyone else's business and if I end up taking the BR route I don't intend telling a soul.
I realise someone may see the notice in the paper but I'm not bothered about that too much - don't think my friends would even notice and all my family is miles away.
Am I being a bit too optimistic?
Also when they put it in the local paper is that the paper local to the court where you file for BR or is it in the paper local to your address?

it didnt go in the local paper where i am but there was a list on the wall in the court that anyone could look at. i never saw it was told by one of the folk i work with (dont think she saw my name) it just came up in conversation.
my parents and oh and eldest daughter and a very close trusted friend are the only ones i have told.

It's the local paper to the court were you go BR.
I don't think your being too optimistic, I did tell my family and 2 friends but thats only because I wanted too. Not told anyone else as it's none of their business and as far as I know no one notice it in paper either (not even me) at least no one has said anything to me.

Its in the local paper to the court - but obviously if you live in a town where one local paper services the entire town then it will be the same local paper to you.
My Dad spotted mine in the paper the same week, but how many times do you actually read the BR section? How often do you think your neighbours do? Only really those that have done it or are doing it read the small ads anyway.
You can also search on the insolvency website, but I only knew that existed after BR, and the London Gazette - where everyone is kept. But most people do not know about that either.
And if you do not want to tell anyone, then thats your business.0 -

The funny thing is ascot I didn't tell a soul I was in debt, but I shouted it from the rooftops when I went BR.

I told my family, I was having a major stress out and needed to tell someone. They were also asking questions anyway,as they knew something was wrong. I also told a close friend.
I never told anyone else and if people at work, neighbours etc know they've certainly never mentioned it.
I was really worried about people finding out but as times gone by Im not too bothered.0 -

There is a previous thread that lists the papers for certain areas,its not exhaustive and my area was not covered if I find it I'll let you Know.
As a general rule its not listed in the freebee papers but in ones that people have to buy,
So maybe due to the credit crunch Joe Public won't be buying the paper
Will get back if I have any luck finding it

i told no-one, it was seen in the paper in the place i lived before, and thats about it
ive gone rather cold and bitter since the crap happened in april 07, anyone who raises my BR will get a salvo/broadside off me like that which sunk HMS Hood, cos in may 07 i was happily chugging along paying my debts........Now we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0 -
