ebay

Hi i wondered if anyone knew how i could complain about goods supplied as genuine. I bought some GHD's in November for my daughter. They have since gone wrong and when we phoned under the warranty we were told they were FAKES. I tried through Paypal but they have been no help. we would like our money back so we can purchase some that are as described genuine.

    you have littlecomeback now tbh
is the seller still on ebay?
  • Unfortunately it's too late to claim a refund via eBay/ Paypal, but you could ask your local Trading Standards office for advice. If your Paypal payment was credit card funded then your CC company may be able to help. Also, if the seller is now selling more of the same item you can report their current listings to eBay as suspected fakes, which will probably get the listings removed and the seller may be suspended, or banned if they have previous offences. Btw (just curious) how were GHD able to identify them as fakes over the phone?

November until August I think is quite reasonable for GHD's bought from Ebay.

How much did you pay for them?
  • they found they were fake beacuse they all have a unique number. Thanks for the advise I will check and see if they are still selling on ebay

Well that puts them in the £100 plus bracket which brings them under the Consumer Credit Act and a responsibilty by the Credit Card Company. If not funded by a card sadly I think your chance of a refund is zilch.

most fakes are described genuine, better to buy from official stockists

I feel for the OP for paying retail value for something on Ebay.

I was expecting to see a reply saying they cost about £50 though so the potential of them being fakes is somewhere around 100%.

It may still be a lesson though that fakes will NEVER be described as fake, they will ALL be described as Genuine.
  • Superdrug has had the same issue and requested any customer whom purchased GHD goods to return to the store for a refund - may have to take to Ebay and mention this. Appears to be a rogue supplier somewhere along the chain.
  • I got this advice on buying ghds and thought i'd pass it on. The market is currently flooded with fakes, as a rough guide if they are for sale below £90 they are more than likely fake, under £115 for pinks. (Although now some of the fakes look so real they are selling them for nearly full price!)
Before you buy any ghds you can actually phone ghd on 01535 651 500 and ask them if the retailer is an approved ghd retailer, therefore ensuring you don't purchase fakes. I also found a website called https://www.compareghds.co.uk which compares all current prices on official ghd online stockists. I ended up purchasing mine through this website but with a retailer called https://www.jasonshankey.co.uk. They offer next day delivery and I have been very pleased with my ghds which I did register with ghd as soon as I received them and they are def genuine.
The pink ghds are released around September each year to raise money for breakthrough breast cancer and they are strictly limited quantities so if you purchasing them anytime between jan-august they are prob fakes.
As you can see I have done a lot of research after originally purchasing fakes on ebay which exploded on me!
