Arnt Raleigh bikes just cheap poor chinese imports nowadays ?
When i was a kid they were made in Nottingham not sure if they still make any there0 -
I've had my Raleigh from Halfords for just coming up to six weeks - atwhich point I've been told to bring it in for a free service to check everything has settled in ok with it as I bought it from new.
I also paid up for a one year service pack as it was on offer (worked out the same as the discount I got for reserving it online so I thought I might as well give it a go). It means any problems (punctures etc) they do the repair work for free and I just pay for any parts, plus it's under guarantee. OK if you are like me and not very good with bikes (plus it's a folding bke so I can stick it in the boot and take it straight to the store) but I guess someone who knows more about how they work wouldn't benefit from it.0 -
My daughter has really enjoyed her Raleigh Molly it has been a good purchase, so happy to go for another Raliegh now she can ride without stabilisers, got her the 16" Kool Miss £58.49 for Xmas
Thanks to OP0 -

What do you need to know?
The dawes beats Raleigh hands down !, as mentioned above Raleigh are very poor bikes, quality is cheap and inferior to the Dawes.0 -

Hi, sorry, I am not familiar with Dawes. I wanted to know if there was a huge difference between the two I had picked. Both have steel frames. The £99.99 Dawes one has an aluminium one so obviously better. Thanks for replying.0 -
Personally I don't think that there's anything particularly wrong with Raleigh bikes for a child to kick around on but, as others have said, they aren't the quality that they used to be and there are plenty of other good brands out there. If you want a bike to last and feel good to ride, spend a little bit more.
Dawes are a very well established good brand with an excellent reputation, especially for family and touring type bikes.
Here's another bike that I'm considering for my 5 year old:

Here are some of the major good brands that I can think of off the top of my head:
Kona, Giant, Scott, GT, Orange, Dawes, Mongoose, Cannondale, Specialized, Trek.
There are plenty more excellent brands, such as Bianchi, Fondriest and many others. But then you're probably getting into the realms of adult racers rather than kids bikes.
Lots of adverts you see for rubbish bikes will say something like "Shimano gears" and you might be tempted to buy on the strength of that. Be aware that Shimano do a massive range of components, ranging from cheap and nasty to extremely high quality.
If in doubt about whether to buy, I think there may be a few people on this forum who will be able to assist. But if you buy a good brand you're unlikely to go too far wrong.0 -
Halfords have got 50% off on some of their Raleigh Bikes...
PLUS I heard they were giving away an extra 10% off all online orders but I don't know if this is still on!!

Thanks for the info. I've just bought this bike http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_490715_langId_-1_CarSelectorCatalogId__CarSelectorGroupId__varient__categoryId_157402_crumb_33980-90909_parentcategoryrn_157402
I know alot of people on here are knocking Halfords and Raleigh but TBH I've never had any problems with them. My OH bought a very expensive bike from Halfords and he's had no problems with them.
I know they're customer service can be a bit bad at times but TBH Im not going to find the bike cheaper anywhere else.
And I've had Raleigh bikes in the past and never had any problems with them0
