Credit Check on extra line?

Hi

I've been with T-Mobile for nearly 4 years now and generally I'm very happy with their service. I currently have 2 active lines.

I'm looking to set up another line now, and then cancel one of the other two when it's due for renewal in december. This is mainly due to me being impatient and wanting a new phone.

What I want to know is, do T-Mobile do a credit check on you when you take an extra line or do they simply check your T-Mobile payment history?

Basically, I have quite bad credit and have been refused a few things recently after moving house, partly due to not being on the electoral roll. However, I have quite a good payment record with T-Mobile.

About 2 months ago I was told in store I was elligible for another SEVEN lines. The only thing to have changed since then is one change of address and a missed payment (by about 2 days) to T-Mobile - I did not get cut off or anything, it was a genuine oversight.

Given the information above, how likely am I to get a third line today?

I know some people will suggest waiting until December and then upgrading to get a new handset but a. I'm very impatient and b. I'd actually rather not keep that number anyway

Any help/advice would be appreciated

  • T-Mobile will only check your T-Mobile account if you want another line. This is if you do it in a T-Mobile store, I assume it's the same if you go to carphonewarehouse etc but I can't be sure.

However if you have missed a payment recently it's unlikely they'll give you one, usually you need 3 months of bills being paid on time for them to give you another line. Might be worth trying though, if you've been with them for ages and only missed 1 payment by a couple of days. HTH.
Any opinions are my own and are offered as advice only and not fact.
