Catford, that link above should definitely be helpful enough. You are getting RIPPED OFF if you pay that amount, you're right. If you were near to me, then I'd be happy to fit the HDD FOC!

Damn, I knew I'd miss something!!!

You should note that if you get a new hard drive, you will need to re-install, and re-activate Windows.

You will need the CD, and the activation key. If you are missing one or the other, or both, then you'll run into problems.

If you have the key, it won't work, due to there being a major hardware change, but if you contact Microsoft and explain the situation, they may be nice and issue you with a new one.
If you dont have the CD, then you will need to get hold of an ME CD from somewhere aswell (A Tiny OEM one if possible).

I am only saying this as you were given the PC, so I dont know what else you were given with it (for example I just received an Advent PC, which had no CDs or key).

As for fitting the hard drive, it will be as simple as:

    Open up the PC
    Find the old hard drive
    Look at the connections
Copy the connections onto the new hard drive

Should take all of 5 minutes, so someone is trying to charge you £720 per hour!!

You should be able to get a 40Gb drive for less than £40 if you can find somewhere locally or a bit more to cover P&P if you order online from one of the many PC component stockists. :j

See MicroMart mag, out every Thursday £1.90 for plenty of ads.

    Best of luck! :)

  • it should be listed on the label on the drive, if not paste the model number into a google search and you will find its size on one of the links, if not post it up here :)
