Can't Get Help With Transport - Help Please?

In my parent's community (where I used to live up until recently), there is a man with 0% vision who regularly catches a bus to and from the big town (where I now live). I used to get the same buses as him and he never had a problem. I see him about the big town now, so he obviously still doesn't have a problem getting here!
Bus drivers, in my opinion, are the salt of the earth. If you're not obviously disabled, they might not realise that you need a bit of extra help. A quick phone call to your local bus operator to explain your situation will result in the drivers on your route being aware of your needs and being more considerate when driving past your bus stops in the morning and the evening.
(I used to work in Public Transport.)0 -
We must not forget the poor girl will need to carry her 20" laptop too though!
That alone must entitle her to a taxi surely? Maybe even a PA to carry it for her?
This kind of attitude makes me so mad for all those who give so much to ensure people with disabilities get a fair deal, and encourage employers and the like to see past their 'needs'.
Only for a few bad eggs to undo, perhaps, years of good work with their unreasonable demands! :mad:0 -

I can't look at the lights. If I do, I will scream. (it's even worse when it's very sunny or dark and thare lights)I'm assuming you have retinitis pigmentosa if you specifically struggle to see in the dark and your sight is going to get progressively worse, although your name suggests it may be albinism.
No. I have Nystagmus, astigmatism, photo phobia and a squint.do you actually want help or not? everyone has been offering good advice but you are just being deliberately difficult now.
either take their advice and try and sort something out, or just shut up.
if you read what I wrote in an earlier post, I said it was sorted.understand it must be difficult being partially sighted but there are things you could do instead of just expecting for more financial help on top of what you are already receiving.
I never said I was asking for more financial help - I was just asking for help.0 -

So, taxis are free where you live, then?
Also, I've just remembered, in your earlier incarnation as Titch89 you posted about how good the buses were in your area and how you went all over the city on them. You really are a con artist, aren't you?0 -

Thread here that should help...

Titch what happened about the monocular that was specifically advised to help with your eye problems,I kow you posted elsewhere about the best price/getting funded for you and it did seem the most useful thing for you as far as reading street signs/bus timetables etc.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

I never presumed you had nystagmus because I have never known anyone with nystagmus make such a fuss. I now know why you haven't had any mobility training yet, chances are you don't actually need it. In my experience, the kids with nystagmus tend to be the ones who are helping the sighted adults to guide the totally blind children and don't require much support at all. Yes, life's not fair, it's horrible having any kind of visual impairment and I wish that you could have full sight but your eye condition could be a lot worse. Make the most of the independence that you have, the totally blind young people I have worked with do everything possible to get something close to that kind of independence and with minimal fuss.0 -

I went to school with a girl who had nystagmus and she led a very near normal life tbh. The worst part of it for her was she being bullied for it, unfortunately.
I don't know about photophobia but I guess the astigmatism and squint depend on the severity of them, as I have both and don't even need glasses. I did have problems when I was a child (with both) and I have stated to get double vision again in the last few years (from the squint), when I am tired or in low light, but no problems other than that.
Basically, what I am waffling on about it, as I understand it, there is varying degrees of astigmatism and it is diffcult to know what the actual problems are for 'Pink Eyes' as she just wants everything for nothing, as opposed to help with managing her conditions.0 -
