Clunk, Click. Every trip.
No ifs, no buts.
Anyone refusing to put their belt on when I drive gets the option of walking."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
Your children are old enough to understand that they do not take their seatbelts off in the car.
And as a UK car driver, you are old enough to understand that it's against the law for them to do so.
Maybe you've all learned a lesson? It's nice that the guy cared enough about your children's safety to actually do something about it, as their parent obviously wasn't bothered either way.
Ditto.
You should never of allowed them to take their seat belts off in the first place and once you saw they had you should of insisted they put them straight back on. I don't like the idea of a well meaning stranger telling me but he only had the children's interests at heart.
What made the children think it was safe to take the seat belts off just because you were stationary in traffic? I would talk to them and explain its illegal for one and the dangers if any happened. I hate the thought of a child be injured in a car especially when it could of been prevented.
Please don't let them take their seat belts off in traffic again.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

kids being kids, took the belts of and started fighting.
That's not kids being kids!! If both your children took their seat belts off - that's kids who haven't been taught how to sit safely and properly in a car!
Were you not tempted to join in with the man and start yelling at them too??
Top bizarre post of the month, that you thought you might get sympathy :eek:0 -
I would have ignored him too as he may have been a nutter. Kids do stuff like that one of mine completely escapes and short of super glue there is not a lot you can do sometimes, especially if they have special needs like mine has. I'm sure you were going to tell them to put them on again but like you i would not take kindly to someone telling my kids to do something who i had no clue who they were.
You have my symapthy if it was an off duty officer. My OH pulled out in front of one once in his own car and what resulted was him harrasing me when i was heavily pregnant after a miscarrage and he came into my work and taking me aside in front of all the staff(i was not even driving!).He also had come to my house. I got my OH to ring a neighbouring police station about this harrassment and the idiot told him who the officer was and my OH's name which made it even worse!
Abuse their poition sometimes? ..Never!!
If you do get in trouble just accept it as they can make it a lot worse.
As Jeremy Clarkson said"you pull me over for something stupid but have you found my telly yet that got stolen?!"0 -

could you take books into the car for them to read when they get bored? or colouring perhaps, a lap tray or one of those art cases that drop down from the back of the seat in front of them?
maybe if one of them sat in the front with you they wouldn't fight? and you could make sure they keep the belt on.'bad mothers club' member 13

Neither do 2 of mine but 1 does so some kids do do stuff like that. And one child on its own is not going to fight with himself in the car. Siblings often fight, unfortunately it was in the car this time.
Being from a large family, I know all about fighting with siblings I still have the war wounds
 , but you can fight without removing a seatbelt. The fighting isnt the issue here, the seatbelt being removed is though.
Fighting is something kids will do and I'll agree with anyone who says so, kids removing their seatbelt is a different story. I was always taught it was the responsibility of the driver to ensure all passengers wore a seatbelt, in this case the driver didnt do this and when a member of the public (albeit OTT) tried to intervene, the driver then became (IMHO) a tad childish by not wanting to address the situation.0 -
So you are annoyed because a stranger actually went out of their way to try and make sure your kids were safe? If they were my kids I'd have made sure they hadn't had the nerve to take off their belts. You don't have to be driving to be involved in an accident and do you really want to be later thinking "if only they had their belts on"?
Would you be annoyed if your kids were playing on the road and someone had the nerve to tell them to get on the pavement? After all, not many people like to help others now because of fear parents, teenagers etc will lash out at them for trying to do the right thing.
I think it's peoples attitudes like this that really doesn't help people belong to a community. You try and help someone and you get grief from it, thats why people don't bother trying.
I think you need to give your head a shake as something is obviously not working.0 -
" started banging on my car window, very aggressively."
You do not behave like this to other people, maybe a tap on mums window and say did you know your children have undone their seat belts. To be honest this would be quite frightening and i still would have done the same as OP.0
