today i was stuck in city of london in traffic, slow moving for 15 minutes, kids being kids, took the belts of and started fighting. as im waitng for the traffic lights. some man started yelling at my kids to put theyre belts on and its illegal without seatbelts. and started banging on my car window, very aggressively. the more he yelled at my kids the less reluctant i was to tell them to behave, i was getting so angry and annoyed, who does he think he is telling my kids off.... cant he just walk along and mind his own business. i know if my partner had been with me he would have got out the car and said something. ... i didnt say anything just told my kids to sit down, behave belt up, dont talk to the strange man......as i drove off he got his radio out i think he was a police officer.... im so annoyed how else would off other people react thanx
i will be debt free, i will

To be honest sometimes kids will do what a stranger tells them before doing what we as parents tell them
I'd be more embarressed than annoyed, but maybe your kids will keep their belts on now regardless of the speed or traffic, purely for the shock factor

the way he did it banging on my car window so aggressively i locked all the doors.. i told my kids not to listen to him,... im so pleased my partner wastn with me he would have made me stop the car and got out and told him to belt up,....thing is my car wasnt even moving... i was stuck in severe traffici will be debt free, i will0

,....thing is my car wasnt even moving... i was stuck in severe traffic
When many shunts happen or the person behind you presses the gas instead of the brake...and your kids get thrown out the windscreen
Whilst I don't condone his actions, I think you are at fault here for letting your kids take their belts off. Maybe he was a police officer and has seen many a mangled person that has slipped their belt off in traffic and their has been an accident....
Moral of the story is that if you teach your kids the correct safety then no man will ever bang on your window again0 -
yeah they know all about safety, just kids being kids and not sitting still, usally they are so good, i think i was just surpised/annoyed someone else was telling my kids off yelling aggressivley making a scene, it was outside my work placei will be debt free, i will0

Sounds frighting for the man to do that to you, but think of all the parents that don't care about safety in cars with the kids.
Perhaps he was a policeman or one of those PCS thingamajigs (not quite a police person.... oh you know what i mean)
Scary as it is what he told you is true, and as already posted sometimes a stranger doing that can scare the kids into behaving and belting up again, did it work?
Annoyed as you were with him, and sorry if this offends but if you had no control over them as they started to muck around be grateful someone cared.
And perhaps thats why they didn't end up through your windscreen or in the back of your seat and you through the windscreen.
I'm sure that you are a brilliant mum.
Yesterday watching from the window at work i watched a car pull up without indicating, and whilst the car was going backwards and forwards parking, this small child who was sat at the front no seat belt, no booster seat, just opened the door and got out, the car was still moving..... would you have a go at that parent... if i could of got out the door in time i would of said a few choice words..... (this all happened on a very busy junction too)
Now imagine what the man saw when he looked in your car.........Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
although i fear getting jumped all over here, i have to say Skintas that i found some of your comments a little odd - i.e. that the more he shouted the more reluctant you were to tell them to behave.
while i think the man was a little OTT in his method, perhaps he went on more because the parent in charge didn't seem to give a fig, and this is a learning exercise for the kid in the back.
how many times do we hear about kids being unruly in the classroom - - at one time of day the parents would be called in and the kids would be petrified of mum or dad finding out, but now parents go on the 'how dare you reprimand my kids' and the teacher gets what for...??? hey ho, kids see that they can get away with murder and we get the society we have now.
the man was trying to protect your kids. a little stupidly perhaps, but nontheless he had a concern for their safety. i know i get angry at people driving while on their phones, because their attitude could affect someone else - badly, seeing as we are talking about moving vehicles and lots of heavy metal.Blonde jokes are one-liners so men can remember them...;)0 -
I would never let my kids take their seatbelts off even if the traffic was at a standstill, I won't even turn on the engine until everyone is safely belted up! I'd rather have moody kids than mangled kids. I too feel like yelling at people when I see kids unbelted, it's such a stupid stupid thing to do!0

im so annoyed how else would off other people react thanx
I would have been embarrassed that someone felt my kids were in danger and that I wasn't in control of them.
Maybe his strong reaction was to do with having seen a bad accident where the kids lives could have been saved by wearing their seatbelts, maybe his own or some close to him, and this makes him really angry to see others behaving so carelessly and so he does what he can t try and prevent this from happening again to anyone.
Your reaction was to tell your kids to ignore someone telling them things that will save their lives, I hope that in the future they don't ignore a stranger warning them of something that turns out to cause any kind of injury or distress. And if I'd have seen it happen and the persons OH had got out the car telling the 'stranger' to mind his own business, I'd think he was a loon to have a go at someone trying to save his kids lives.
I think you don't understand the danger kids are in when they don't have seatbelts on, even when stationary in traffic. Then you would have understood what this man was trying to do.0 -

Your children are old enough to understand that they do not take their seatbelts off in the car.
And as a UK car driver, you are old enough to understand that it's against the law for them to do so.
Maybe you've all learned a lesson? It's nice that the guy cared enough about your children's safety to actually do something about it, as their parent obviously wasn't bothered either way."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
That's London for you - full of nuttersIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0
