Lost Firefox Bookmarks!

OK, but do I have to register because when I click tools> foxmarks > settings, I get a window with username and password, (in **s), already in the boxes that I cannot remember what it is,( pretty sure I know it), but when I put it into the log in page it says; - "Your username or password is incorrect"
Is it a separate registration?
Which user name/password are you trying to use?
You have to register with Foxmarks, they then send an email to verify your address, you confirm by clicking a link.
It's not as complicated as the above sounds.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

I was using what I thought, and am certain is a name/password as I described in my post above #11, but it is obviously a different system/acc, so I have filled in the new registration and am waiting for the e-mail for activation, when that arrives, how would I access/get back bookmarks if they disappear again, or is it self explanatory?
The bookmarks I have got back are from a backup from April 2008, now it is possible that I have added some since then, if that is the case have I lost them?
As S0litaire has not replied to my query that s/he raised can you answer my post #8 ?Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
On going to close my browser,(Firefox), prior to shutting down computer, I got a pop up window; -
Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer
" You have unsynchronized bookmarks. Do you want to synchronize them now"
There is a small square box for ticking and alongside that is; - " Don't show this message again" YES NO
I clicked on the red X at the top of the box and it closed the browser as well as the pop up!
Am I right in thinking that I should have clicked YES, as I set up the FOXMARKS as mentioned in reply #7 that some bookmarks I added today are not in the Foxmarks synchronized download I did yesterday? and if not will I get the opportunity to do it the next time, (although I doubt that as I opened and closed Firefox browser again and did not get the pop up window again)?
For the future if I add bookmarks during a session, when closing down do I click YES when that pop up comes on? and what if I tick the box that says; - " Don't show this message again" Will that automatically synchronize them?

It sounds as if you're sorted, just a couple of things.
To access your settings, Tools/FoxMarks/Settings.
Mine is ticked to sync automatically and sync on shutdown.
Also for manual sync, if required, Ctrl+Shift+S.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

They where already ticked, as was "ask first" which I have now unticked.
Also re my post above; - "Am I right in thinking that I should have clicked YES, as I set up the FOXMARKS as mentioned in reply #7 that some bookmarks I added today are not in the Foxmarks synchronized download I did yesterday?"
Also could you please re read my post #3 and see if there is a way that I can restore what I think I might have lost, or should I just leave it as it is?Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
I'm using PCLOS so having to do this from memory.
I'm not familiar with Vista, but in XP you need to be able to see hidden folders.
Control Panel/Folder Options/View(I think), tick box "show Hidden files".
Firefox/Bookmarks/Organise Bookmarks/File/Import.
Then navigate/browse to
My Computer/ C:/Documents&Settings/Your Name/ Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profile/*****.default/Bookmark Backups/Select appropriate date.
If the Backup folder is empty then I'm pretty sure the bookmarks will have been lost when you used the reset button the other day.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Thanks but I can't seem to get past this part of your post; -
"My Computer/ C:/Documents&Settings/Your Name/ Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profile/*****.default/Bookmark Backups/Select appropriate date."
So I think I will leave it, I can't have lost more than 2-3 bookmarks and I think I remembered one of those anyway.
As I mentioned in post #16, if I now add any bookmarks will they automatically be added to FOXMARKS?Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Assuming you have enabled "view hidden files", and have XP.
Launch Firefox select Bookmarks/Organise Bookmarks/File/Import.
A Wizard will open, chose 'From File' click next, then Browse using the selections
My Computer/ C:/Documents&Settings/Your Name/ Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profile/*****.default/Bookmark Backups/.
When you get this far there should be 5 backup files e.g.bookmarks-2008-09-06
Highlight the one you want (from a few days back) and click open, all being well your old bookmarks will be imported.
If there are no files in the backup folder you are stuffed.

Yes.
I am on XP, I don't know/can't find if I have enabled "view hidden files"
I did the first part of you post; - Launch Firefox select Bookmarks/Organise Bookmarks/File/Import.
A Wizard will open, chose 'From File' click next, (this I did the other day and is how I got them from my desktop), but only got; -
Application Data
Apps
History
Temp
Temporary Internet Files
However in the oblong box there was no option of; -
My Computer/ C:/Documents&Settings/Your Name/ Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profile/*****.default/Bookmark Backups/.
The nearest that came up was for September, which is probably the ones I got back the other day from my back up emails from my desktop.
Looks like I am stuffed and will just hope that what I may have lost where not important.
Thanks for your help.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
