Lost Firefox Bookmarks!

I have just clicked on Bookmarks in Firefox Mozilla and everything has gone! Any ideas why, where they have gone and how do I get them back? I had them all there yesterday and have done nothing to my knowledge that could have wiped them!
Thanks

    Can you restore them?

I have done that, although I did not have the options " Import and Backup -> Restore"

I had the option to import which I have done from a file I had on my desktop; - "back up emails" but that was from April and I may have lost some between then and now!

    But why did they disappear?

The only thing I vaguely remember is last night the computer would not shut down, I pressed the "reset" button then the start button a couple of times then it shut down as normal! But I always close browsers before shutting down!

I have been out most of the day but used the computer from about 10 a.m to about 12, left the computer on during time away and can't remember if I used bookmarks during the time!

Firefox makes automatic backups of your Bookmarks every so often you just have to manualy find them.

Give me a few mins to find the path to them...

ok go you "Start" then "Run" and type the following:
    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\

This will open your Firefox profile folder. you should see a folder called bookmarkbackups inside it theres a file called "Bookmark-01092008.html" or something like it!
there may be 4 or 5 of these! these are your bookmark backup files. all you need to do is check each one (the will open in Firefox as a webpage)
Find the latest and rename it to "Bookmark.html"

Start firefox them import the bookmark as per Fermi's post. :D

OK as I have said above I have got them back,(though not necessarily all of them), as said in my post #3.

Now to do what you are now suggesting, should I first delete the ones I have imported?

    NO!
sorry thought you'd not recovered any book marks!

Have you checked through the other bookmark HTML files to see which is the latest?

Use FOXMARKS , this add-on allows you to synchronise your bookmarks between PCs, but in your case you simply restore from your "online" Foxmarks account.

In the meantime SOlitaires advice is the way to go.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I have added that, but how would I find/use it in the future? As it is now if I click on tools> foxmarks> my foxmarks. it asks me to log in? Do I need to register?

Yes you do, Foxmarks keeps a copy of your bookmarks sync'd on an external server so you can log into them from any computer and have all your bookmarks to access.

OK, but do I have to register because when I click tools> foxmarks > settings, I get a window with username and password, (in **s), already in the boxes that I cannot remember what it is,( pretty sure I know it), but when I put it into the log in page it says; - "Your username or password is incorrect"
    Is it a separate registration?
