IB and IB50 'Fun'!

Hi!
Not sure anyone can cast some general pointers on the following, but I'd be most grateful for any replies.
After 13 months on IB, I've been sent the dreaded IB50 form. I'm a bit green in respect of anything to do with benefits as this was my first claim for anything in 25 years. I haven't been reviewed before now as I've been undergoing chemotherapy. Anyway, onto questions ...... (I'll stop waffling!)
DO I read anything into the fact that there is no request for the additional MED4 form?
I appreciate that cancer gives me no automatic right to IB, but am I missing anything here under the 'special rules' guidance - I'm not terminal.
Finally, I'm on short-term DLA. Must I come off this if I'm refused IB as it would seem illogical to be awarded both. The IB50 form is very similar in questions to the DLA assessment form. (I do still have considerable limitations due to some fairly intensive chemotherapy ...)

OK .. if I've not made sense, then I'm obviously sorry. Some general thoughts, comments or observations would be great.

if you do a quick internet search you should find lots of help on filling out IB50,as for a med4 if i remember right its only the first time that they ask for that not on renewals.Remember for physical as opposed to mental health you need to score at least 15 points on the IB50
As for dla that has nothing to do with I/B,you say your dla is "short
term",they will send a renewal pack around 6 months before it expires,if you are sent for a medical re:I/B they can use this when reviewing your dla providing its no more than 6 months old.
IF you need more help at anytime just post again

If it is the first IB50 form you have received they normally do ask for a MED4. There are "special rules" for DLA if you are terminal, with IB some people are exempt from the medical with certain conditions. IB and DLA are seperate benefits and you can claim both at the same time.
  • Thanks, so far ... useful info'. I suppose what I'm getting at with DLA is that this ongoing award would be cross-referenced with any IB award as the IB50 requests info' on whether you have DLA. I appreciate that they're two separate awards, but they come from the same department. My guess is I'd have to opt-out of DLA if IB is refused.
BTW, it seems unlikely that they might uphold an IB claim, even with my condition.

As healy has said, IB & DLA are separate benefits, with different entitlement conditions, that can be claimed at the same time.

If you do fail the IB medcial test called PCA, it does not mean that your DLA will stop.
  • Thank you ...
I'm just thinking that, if the DWP consider me capable of work the very least they'll do is to look again at my DLA award & application - or am I being paranoid?? I do know that you can work with DLA, of course.

It is possible that they will look at your DLA again but it is not definite. Even if they did look at it again you may still be entitled.

THANKS .. probably best to forgo the IB application as DLA criteria is a real lottery.

why would you forgo I/B? there is absolutely NO need, complete the IB50 and see what happens,if they turn you down then appeal, but if you have concerns about the ib50 go and see someone at cab or welfare rights.
DLA may appear to be a lottery but a large % of applications succeed and 60% of appeals also succceed

If you are new to the benefits system then I would strongly advise you to get help to fill in the form. Your local council should have welfare advisors who will help. Other than that you could try CAB or DIAL.
  • Thanks to the last two posts. I've got DLA for another 11 months. I just don't want to open up this case for review by applying for IB. I'm fully entitled to DLA, but a new pair of eyes could well view the award differently.
