A friend went into a 3 shop and signed up for a new contract that lasts for 18 months. The contract has not started yet and my friend has changed her mind and would like to cancel the contract. According to there website there is a 14 day cooling off period where you can cancel. However my friend went back to store within 14 days and has been told she cannot cancel contract as there terms fiffer from that of online. She has not used the phone and the manager of the shop refuses to cancel the contract. Is there anything that she can do?

probably not - i was in a similar situation with orange and the manager wrote "no 14 day cooling off period" on the contract, which i discussed with him and accepted.
if your friend was made aware of the fact there was a cooling off period in the shop then you might have a case, but she wasn't and just assumed it was the same as online then i don't really think she can do anything - most companies do operate different policies online because if you order a phone online, you don't really have a chance to look at it and see if you like it so they will give you a cooling off period.
the assumption is, if you order it in a shop then you've looked at it and made an informed choice about wether or not you want it.0
