No, and there were a handful of small internet based companies that sprang up charging £100 to put you on Rightmove but their contracts were pulled. There are still a small number of online agents that will get you on there though (search posts here).Signature on holiday for two weeks0

No. EA's only.Krusty & Phil Madoff, 1990 - 2007:

I have always thought there is room in the market to come up with a site to rival rightmove where people can post their houses for sale for free. No EAs required.0

Why would anyone go to the expense of setting up such a site? What's in it for them if it's totally free?0

You would be surprised. If it got as many hits as Rightmove undoutedly does, and was managed properly, it could generate a fairly good amount of ad-revenue, just from using unobtrusive Google ads.
Of course, I would say you need to charge a nominal amount per addition to the site, otherwise every Tom, !!!!!! and Harry would be adding useless crap to the site.0 -

Yep advertising would do it. Just enough to cover costs. Making money isn't really my thing but no reason why it wouldnt make money. Vendors could send a donation when they sell.
I was thinking of a community thing where people validate entries in their area. There are enough people interested in property who would do it for free. Just look at this site!0 -
Take a look at this thread I started. I've had some great feedback.

Thanks, backs up my thoughts. Setting up a site that ranks is a chicken and egg thing. You need the content but don't get the vendors until you rank well.
Being free and a community based site would get the listings content and also market the site via social networking. Most people have a digital camera and the ability to write a description of their property so entries are self done and would just require authorisation.
I may be out of work after Christmas so may look into it a bit more when I have more time on my hands.
Perhaps MSE Martin could set one up to accompany this site?0
