it's a long time since i've used it but their used to be a product called 'Slick 50' that promised all sorts of performance and economy improvements.
good luck

hi, just to let you know that my dad uses the magnetic devices, he swears by em
,,also he adjusted something on the car which lets less fuel through, nearly conks out when at a junction though but you can alter this to suit your needs..this works really well for him he has a diesel and gets 60 odd mpg.0 -

There's a cable that goes from the accelerator to the carburettor, if you follow that cable there's a screw that you can adjust to speed up or slow down the engine.
There's another one called the mixture screw inside the carburettor that adjusts the amount of petrol and air getting to the engine.
My dad used to alter them on my cars........ had to keep your foot on the pedal at the traffic lights but used to drive all week on £3 of petrol ;D
Sorry I didn't think of that earlier but being a girl I prefer thinking about kittens and bunny rabbits :PJust run, run and keep on running!0 -
jay jay thats exactly what i thought, although you worded it better ;D i too am a girl but i havent got a car, (unfortunately), its amazing what dads know though,

and turn off the air conditioning/climate control and don't drive with the windows open. Air con can easily add 10% to your fuel consumption.
MTC
p.s. but put the air con on once or twice a week to keep the system lubed, the air fresh and to stop staleness building up.0 -
hi.this might work on older cars but on newer ones(vr6 etc)all the fuel mixture (and everything else for that matter)is controlled by the ecu(electronic control unit),there is no carberettor.only real way of better fuel economy if you dont want to drive slower is to take murphys advice above and keep well serviced.vr6s are not good on fuel economy and were never designed to be they are the performance option ;Dpays your money takes your choice.

Giving the eco tabs a bash. popped them in today and filled up.. got 38miles out of an 8th of a tank which is normally about 25. It was motorway miles though so will have to see what happens.0

ecotab - I have to recomend them I tried them and my car is giving me much better response and also I've noticed that I go much further on the same amount of fuel, so for the £3.99 per pack of two I'll defenitly stick with them
P.S. And also reduces exhaust emmisions by half - it is my little contribution to the enviroment0 -
Read this thread with interest and agree with some and disagree with others.
IMO fuel is fuel is fuel and I can't see any great performance increase resulting in a change from one brand to the other. I would guess that supermarket brands are as good as the next garage's for everyday needs and the decrease in performance is cancelled out by the saving at the pump.
I agree with the poster who recommended running without aircon and all of the gadgets but it's not like the old days and air con units are reasonably efficient.
Sounds like you are getting about 200 to the tank and I think that's pretty admirable since by the sound of it you are using the car for short, stop-start journeys that don't give it a proper chance to operate at a decent temperature for any period of time.
Sitting at the lights in a 6-cyl 2.8 litre engined car is obviously going to burn a load more fuel than a car with a "sensible" engine of around half the size.
Those eco-tabs are advertising a 10% increase in efficiency, so I wouldn't expect any great things out of that. As for 50% emissions improvement mentioned - I'm sorry but I'm not buying that for one second!
The best advice I can offer is:
drive in a high a gear as possible without over-labouring the engine.
Avoid short trips.
Don't accelerate hard, go easy on the right foot and let the engine come up to speed in its own time.
Keep your tyres in good shape.
Drive defensively - i.e. don't accelerate up tot he last minute and then waste all the energy you've just expended in fuel by soaking it up with the brake pads.
Keep the car regularly serviced.
Don't place too much faith in miracle-cures (add-ins etc). If they were that great they's be in there as standard. The magnetic do-dah I can't comment on but again if it was really a revelation it'd be fitted to every car leaving the factory.
Maybe try approaching a specialist tuner to see if he can de-tune the engine. These cars are FAST - it was in the wet, admittedly, and it's 4WD but 've been round a race track in one of these babies and we were overtaking Porsches and the like.
Right - enough of my blabber - got some dinner to eat!0 -
Don't know about you about month ago I was due for MOT on my N reg Corsa and failed. You can imagine what my mechanic proposed. Before I agreed to pay anything to my mechnic friend of mine recomended to try ecotabs. I drove around for about 30 miles and went for emission test and passed. If it wasn't for ecotab I would be £200 short.
I would say not everything was invented 30 years ago
