You CAN connect your Sky Box to your old a tv without a scart lead. If you plug an aerial lead to the rf in of your VCR from the Sky Box RF out socket, and then an aerial lead from the RF out of your VCR to the aerial in of your tv.

Then turn the Sky box on and tune your tv to the output of the box like a regular tv channel. Once you have done this tune your VCR to the same channel as the tv. The only disadvantage in this is an inferior picture compared to the SCART connection, and the sound will not be stereo.

To record Sky simply turn the VCR to the channel you have stored the Sky box to.

Hope this saves you the cost of a new telly ....at least to the January sales!

I dont have an aerial though, its fallen down, the wires still there but nothings connected to it. Does it have to be an aerial? all ive got is the sky wire and I should have an old cable tv wire unless they disconnected it but its the sky I wanted to use
    Thanx

  • We had the same problem before, with a Bush TV, from argos, silver one (but also available in black). Can't remember model number..

We had someone repair it for bout £30, and it has worked fine ever since. All he did was resolder something inside. Something to do with a loose bit of solder or a bad impure piece which was conducting well :S:S:S

    Anyhow hope that helps!

forget the tv ariel, OK sauce was talking about an rf cable, this is a single cable that goes from your video out on the back of your video and plug the other side of the cable into the back of your tv ( where the ariel would normally go) they cost about £3 although you may not get the interactive stuff or the broadcast quality you were getting before.
if it works then you know it is the scart connector that has come loose at the back of your tv.

i may have read OK Sauces post slightly wrong...

you can also use this method with your smaller tv which doesnt have a scart ( dont know if this is what OK meant?) so you should be ok till after xmas.
what is the plural of moose?

Yes basically you are not using your broken aerial, just the various aerial sockets on your equipment. You need two RF *cables*.
One from skybox to vcr then one from vcr to tv's aerial socket. Usually the sockets are marked RF in and RF out on the various appliances (or aerial in/out!) You will get everthing you had before using this connection EXCEPT stereo sound. ie all the interactive stuff!

SKY BOX 'RF OUT' ---->VCR 'RF IN'---->VCR 'RF OUT'----> TV 'AERIAL IN'
Tune the telly and vcr to the signal you get from the digibox.

    Where
    > means a length of coaxial aerial cable with a female aerial plug on one end and a male aerial plug on the other.

    Hope this helps!
