Didn't work for me. I rang wanting to cancel Film Four. After doing an internet search for 0800 numbers for Sky, and trying several, I rang one that put me through to Film Four (had no idea whom I was ringing at the time). They transferred me through to Sky, who passed me onto another department, but hey.... my calls were answered more or less straight away. And I pressume for free because I originally rang Film Fours free phone number? Even if 0870 number applied when Sky took the call they answered pretty quickly. Unlike last month were my phone charges for the 0870 number to Sky amounted to nearly £5 and lots of time wasted waiting in ques. So my next question is, I understand the 0870 numbers are currently being reveiwed. How long before they are finally stopped?
  • Phoned Sky last week on an 0870 number as I couldn't get through on any of the free / local rate phone numbers, and after the usual drivel that has you holding for ages, I was told ny the automated system that my call would be answered in 'no more than 42 minutes' !!!!!!

At that point I flipped and managed to get through to the Sky switchboard and told the poor receptionist that if she didn't put me through I would cancel my standing order.

Feel guilty about getting cross with her, but she did put me through.

Thanks! If FilmFour basically transferred you to the Sky 0870... number, then it would most likely charge FilmFour for the 0870 call as your call is to FilmFour's switchboard which is then putting you through to Sky. But, OTOH, FilmFour probably put you through to perhaps a "back-door" number to Sky - I would presume this is the case if they answered quite quickly and you weren't in a queue too long.

Now, in reply to your question. Ofcom are "looking into" the situation with 08xx numbers. Take a look about half down the official Ofcom report page, titled What changes are we proposing? for more information on the proposals of what is to be changed. (Official Ofcom Report: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/nts_forward/nts_pes/) I also posted a message further back in this thread with more links to a discussion thread on this forum and an email link for you to raise your concerns. See my original post here: [post]1118031[/post].

Hope this helps and answers some of your questions. :D
