The council tax is regressive and so people on lower incomes pay a higher % of their income on this tax.
I think a local income tax would be pretty unfair....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Westend of glasgow prices are still high and holding up if taking a bit longer to shift. there are also quite a few more fixed prices which isn't a bad thing. Seems we are escaping the brunt so far. Our economy is sluightly better insulated from the economic downturn as 25% of jobs are public sector.
In teh north east the oil boom is raising prices with significant rises.
Edinburgh which has been running at white hot rises for far longer than the rest of Scotland is cooling fast and selling is harder.
In Glasgow it looks liek the not so nice areas are feeling it worse than the nicer areas. The sandstone housing is doing well in tehse areas or should I say not doing bad as yet.
The glasgow harbour new "luxury" flats are suffering badly though
Hope that helps
From my experience I have seen a number of properties in the West End of Glasgow now let after they couldn't sell.
5 in my street alone, and another 2 just round the corner and 1 house which has gone to a fixed price has had 3 viewing in 6 months0 -

Decided against, given that GB and darling alistair are running your country!
terrible fing HUMILATION
Damm, that writing is so small. Does that say that Darling and Brown are ruining the country? You won't get an arguement from me on that one.
Please don't feel humiliated. You're not responsible for every scot.0 -
In Dundee property is not shifting as it was 6 months ago. Lots of houses on the market for months, and people forced to lower price because they are desperate to move. In my street 6 months ago houses went for £130k now they sitting with o/o £115 with no viewings...

noticed one today was a fixed price of 125k, now dropped to fixed 115k. Every day I notice a price drop in the properties that arnt selling. A lassie at my work paid 114k for a one bed in Aberdeen, she has it on now for o/o 99k but I have seen far more appealing one beds for fixed prices, one at fixed 100k.I got food in my belly and a license for my telly
And nothing's going to bring me down0
