student internet access!!!

Hi,

Very new to this website, but I have found some very good tips so I thought it would be best to ask you guys about my broadband problems!!

Basically, I'm a 2nd year student living with 5 other people (6 total), for uni we need a good broadband provider thats fast, efficient, and has an unlimited download, and a 12 month contract.

I know we already have virgin wires (apparently) but we need to switch on our telephone lines for many of the internet providers.

BT told me that one company (unnamed) doesnt tell you exactely what your getting for you pay... I dont have a clue which one they were talking about, but they told me to avoid them

So, if anyone could advise me it would be VERY helpful!!!
Thanks,
oh also sorry as I have no clue about the internet either so if I've missed anything .. i'm sorry!

If one of your friends has a contract with o2 and they are available in your are you can get 8 mb broadband for £7.50 per month on a 12 month contract.

Try the availability checker here http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php sometimes that is not totally up to date so if you have an isp in mind then go to their website and do a check their too.

Other sites of intrest http://www.dslzoneuk.net/isp_ratings.php and http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isps.html
    Kind Regards

My daughter has just finished uni and for 2 years while in a shared house was with Virgin for BB, phone and TV package. Just been to Virgin website and BB 10meg service, TV 40 digital channels, phone free weekend and evening calls for £16/month + £11/month for line with them = £27/month = 4.5/month each

I know my DD was paying £30/month for her deal.

She had no problems with BB or phone or TV, just Virgin call centre and not billing them correctly, they complained so many times and by the time they finished they had been upgraded so many times on the tv that they were on the best tv package they offered....;)
