Increasing Laptop Harddrive capacity
Comments

I recently bought a larger capacity internal hard drive, put it into an enclosure and then cloned my existing hard drive. I then just put my cloned hard drive into my laptop. It was easy to do with some help from this forum, so if you need any pointers let me know and i'd be happy to help.

Do you have any back-up system at present? If not, I'd go for the external HD option, but instead of moving data to it, I'd back it up until such time as the HD really is full. Too many people forget that if a Hard Drive dies, which it can do without warning, you may never get your photos / music / videos back again unless they are backed up."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0

If you've still got the stuff on an old computer, now is an ideal time to upgrade the hard drive in the laptop. I would recommend having 1 partition in a hard drive laptop but do whatever works for you if you have a good reason. 250 gb drives can be had for a good price. 1st thing to do is go through your stuff on the old computer to see what you can get rid of. Yes, there is stuff you can get rid of, there must be! Then check if your laptop drive is SATA or IDE (I'll guess SATA). It'll be a matter of a few screws, sliding a drive out and sliding another in, then reinstalling the OS and everything, then putting your data onto the laptop like you've already done. The advantage of all this is that you can carry your stuff around with you inside your laptop, instead of having to carry an external drive around too...
