OP has your friend recieved help for the problem0

Surely the channels being accessable is not the problem, the actual problem is being able to use the phone to ENTER the competitions?0

Just back from the school run - answers to questions etc...
robt -It looks like it started with the phone ins and then progressed to online gambling.
dcfc79 - No, as yet my mum hasn't asked for any help. I can't make her - all the bank statements and phone bills for the months that were "bad" were all unopened until last night (I am trying to find out how much of a mess she is in - and there are boxes and boxes of paperwork) She isn't facing up to this at all she firmly has her head in the sand...
Re the phone line our bills run @ £20pcm I was going to call talk talk and reduce the max call limit so that if she does call we are not going to get hit with a bill above £40.
Idiophreak - yes, it is a wireless router and thank you I will get DH to go have a look at what he would need to do to it to block access in the small hours.
Skylight - Thank you a comprehensive list to keep us on the straight and narrow! you are right this is more about protecting us from her trying to win her way out of this.
ringo - her works laptop is like mine - there is a wireless card inside - you flick the switch to activate it. lmao I am not getting a screwdriver out every night to remove the card (or whatever it is)!
Thank you all so much - I can't change anything that has happend. I just want to protect my family from mum's behaviour - which is a grim thing to have to say.0 -
Really sorry to hear all of that, your best bet is to stop access to phone lines, no transactions can take place with your phone line/s disconnected, not even Sky Gambling sites.
Good luck.0 -

The chances of her admitting she has a problem are slim to say the least.
.
The difference is that its not her house for a start. Whilst people are quite happy blowing their own money etc, there's only a very few who would do it to others.
If she's as bad as you're claiming, what's to stop her taking stuff from the house to the local pawn shop/cash coverters? Perhaps you should tell her to make her own arrangements and that she can't stay? After all, she's an adult quite capable of sorting out a roof over her head and the mess is of her own creation.0
