Called to cancel my account with them tonight, expected a fight and i got one.
Firstly, asked why i wanted to cancel, then the operator went over the benefits of AOL, all at my expense ie phone call.
Then offered me platinum (2meg) at my current price ,Gold, (1meg) £24.99 and even offered to throw in a free wireless router!!
finally he relented and gave me a mac code, what a struggle.
now looking at removing aol software when i swap over, heard it is not easy!!
I think i have to call AOL again when i have ported over to close the account.
hopfully that should be easier

I have a quick AOL question. A friend has AOL, but is using a seperate provider for their website/email - who provide POP3/IMAP email and was using Outlook to access mail.
Things were working fine accross her AOL connection until a virus outbreak took place. AOL stopped her connection (I don't blame them), she had to call to get it re-activated - AOL 9.0 was working, but since 're-activation', POP3/IMAP has'nt been working ! (no settings have been changed either).
I've throughly cleaned up the machine, Virus's and Spyware, internet access (via AOL 9.0) works - and when I spoke to AOL and suggested they were still 'blocking ports' for POP3/IMAP traffic - the call center rep - did'nt have a clue and kept telling me to do a keyword search on IMAP .... blah blah blah !!
Can any AOL expert - give some words of wisdom? (Thanks)
BTW - I've suggested she change from AOL !!

Try using a webmail program this should solve the POP3 problems, if AOL are blocking ports there is little you can do. There SPAM guidelines usually block servers for 24hours from twere they receive spam from so its worth trying everyday and see if things sort themselves out. Alternatively you should be able to redirect the email to the aol address.
