hi dave,
nope the credit card company can easily say the last proof they had the CARD was in Gran Canaria was 18th August. The first fraudalent transaction took place in UK on 23rd August plenty of time for ther card to have been sent home via mail.
Not saying the OP did this but the card company will say he could have.0 -
Good point Sherlock!

Never considered that. That's why I would never make a fraudster.0 -
Thanks all for advice
i made another 2 transactions while on holiday 1 on the 29th of Aug the other on the 30th so that is proof enough i was in Gran canaria. It must be the doctor/ doctors assistant/accountant, they new from my medical form i would be out of the UK until 1st sept, and who bother to check there cc statement while on hol, well believe it or not i did try through my bank but the internet in the hotel would not accept direct x so i gave up, i just wanted to see how much he had charged me.0 -
I'm assuming that the transactions were in the UK
It seems unlikely that the Doctor would have cloned your card and then used it /sent it to the UK. It could have been cloned in the UK before you went away.
At this stage I wouldn't get too bogged down in proving which country you were in at the time. Methusala seems misguided and alarmist.
Most of the transactions sound like "cardholder not present", Internet transactions where the PIN won't have been used. So it should not be a problem to get the credit company to believe you.0 -
I have just posted on another thread about my card being used to book a flight, ironically easyjet too!..its in the hands of the police so the CC company say, but they didn't dispute that the transactions weren't mine, as my card is used very little and always with the same companies.
I have a friend who has just been stung for £1300.. the details were skimmed they believe from a Tesco garage, and all the transactions were at other Tesco garages all over the country, my friend was on holiday at the time so could prove it couldn't have been her, she has had the transactions refunded
scary..0 -

I'm not sure why you are so convinced that the doctor was involved with this fraud ? I have not seen any evidence and think its far more likely that your card was cloned back in the UK. Is there something else about the doctor that concerns you ?
I know I'm sad but I always check my accounts online when out of the country either on my laptop or hotel computers. Particularly with making multiple foreign currency transactions I like to keep track of exactly what is leaving my account.0 -
well just to update you Abbey have credited all the fraudulent transactions, and well for me i thing that will be the end of credit cards for me, scary that this can happen and a good jobthey believed me.0

Maybe it's connected with this fraud where card readers were tampered with by fraudsters in the factory that made them.

maybe so but one of my transactions was with easy jet, now surely they should be able to trace that if not the perpretataitor surely the traveller through his passport0

Good grief! A thread where the OP posts back to let us know the outcome!
I wouldn’t be put off using cards by the one incident webbit. I’ve had cards for decades and never experienced a problem. Congrats on fighting the establishment and winning.
(and telling us!)
Nice link Steve – a very interesting article.0
