Just to make others aware!!! Abbey have just refunded my mortgage early repayment charge and all bank charges.
Sorry it's a bit long winded
Recently my bank charged me for going 8p overdrawn, due to my own fault and not checking my bank statements for some time i accrued bank charges totalling £160 (taking me further into an unauthorised overdraft). I went into the bank and paid all the charges, bringing my account back into credit. However each month for the following 4 months the good people at Abbey  kept charging me for an unauthorised overdraft, each month I would telephone and the charges would be reversed. During this time I applied to port my Abbey mortgage and increase it, this was denied due to 'an unauthorised overdraft issue' and I applied to Nationwide and was immediately accepted.
To cut a long story short(ish), I made a written complaint to Abbey, and today I received a phone call telling me that ALL of my bank charges since going 8p overdrawn would be refunded as would my Early Repayment Charge (all £1600 of it) on my mortgage once I move house and change mortgages.
I can't help but wonder how many other people haven't been so lucky??

Hi, our current mortgage is with Abbey, we are moving house so applied to port current mortgage and get another Abbey mortgage to run alongside which is what was rejected. We then applied to Nationwide for the whole amount to cover new house and have been accepted. We have to pay the ERC when we end the Abbey one but they will then refund it by cheque.0

Be interested to see the letter of confirmation of this when you get it. See what reason they give for refunding it.
The reason for moving your mortgage was because of constant problems with faulty charges on your account bought about by this 8 pence. So I would think the fact you tried to move mortgage within Abbey and got turned down due to the charges problem will be taken as a loss of faith in the bank to handle your finances etc and that why they have agreed to allow you to move without incurring the ERC.LegalBeagles0 -
