Dont take Orange insurance on Samsung D600
Just a quick warning to anyone thinking of getting the new Samsung D600 with Orange or if you have it already.
Went to sign a new contract today and after asking a few questions the sales assistant let slip that the Samsung D600 is a generic handset and Orange do not support it so if you take the insurance on the phone which is £5 per month it will be useless.
I don't know if Orange will actually tell it's customers that the phone insurance covers the D600 and sales assistants are not the best people to tell you something if it loses them a sale. If you order the phone on the internet it gives you the option to add the insurance to the D600 but does not tell you Orange will not support the phone if it needs fixing and you could be left will a bill or if your phone is lost or stolen then you are truly stuffed.
Hope this info is helpful to someone

This only applies if the D600 is bought from Carphone Warehouse ,Orange will not offer insurance. You can however take out CPWs insurance.
If and when the D600 is officially released on Orange, Orange care will cover their own D600 handsets(If bought from Orange retail or Orange Direct) with usual T&Cs.
Carphone Warehouse get generic new handsets to market quicker than having to wait for Orange branded versions. This should not be seen as a slur against Orange, just Carphone Warehouse wanting to get ahead.0 -

Forgot to put in my original post that it was the Orange shop where I went for the phone and apparantly the sales assistant thinks Orange won't be endorsing the phone at all and he would have gladly sold me insurance but said it would be pointless.0 -

From what he told me generic handsets won't contain any Orange branding on the phone like the little company logo you find on most mobile phones, he was saying it comes down to money as they want to make more out of the contract. I hope this is not the future of Orange and only applies to this handset0 -

generic handsets are sim free which menas straight from the manufacturer without any branding and have never been locked to any network
these are seen to be worth more on the open market than an unlocked model0
