All in one computer screen/cpu thing

Am I going mad? Maybe

Anyhow remember seeing a computer which did not have a tower unit- cpu? You put the cd`s in the side or in the base, and it had all the works in there too. Or did I dream it?

I am looking for a pc for an 8 year old boy, he has a small bedroom so space is an issue. Was told not to go down thw laptop routiue.

Anybody have any idea what these things are called? Or should i just go for screen on the wall, wireless keyboard and tower under his bed?

Thank you

    Tried Apple's website ? It's a Mac though, not a PC.
  • Does it matter that it`s a mac not a pc?

It matters if you intend on using it for gaming or need to run windows specific software. If thats the case then you'll need a PC running Windows XP.

If you don't have these requirements, go for the IMac G5 from Apple. The new one includes Front Row and a remote control... Sweet :)

And it runs OSX which is very nice to use.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't think you can get a PC in the same form factor as the IMac.

Have seen a Sony one - was over a grand though... I'd look at a small pc - try searching for shuttle (a couple of starters http://www.ambros.co.uk/shuttlelist.php http://www.evesham.com/PCs/Info.asp?e=AAAEFC4D-E1DE-4D44-97DD-F4D697E77088

Try a Shuttle system - They are very slim line and can run Windows XP. You could then use a flat screen and wireless keyboard etc. They are roughly the same depth as a normal tower, except not as tall. However, they usually only have 1 or 2 PCI slots, so check the specs match what you want before continuing.

    What about a laptop?

I saw in the paper once a system from RM who do systems for Schools and colleges. Not sure if they supply direct to the public but you could enquire.
They call it the RM One

    Prices from £540 + delivery + vat.

Not sure how upgradeable they are.

Alternatively, you could try a mac mini. Combine that with a flat screen monitor and wireless mouse and keyboard and you've got yourself a nice tidy setup.

In order to appease gizmoleeds I feel I should also mention the PC version by AOpen :)

Just remember upgrading of a laptop will be far more
difficult than a desktop to upgrade..... Hardware ofcourse.

    I quite agree!
