Hi Ruby - glad your first day back went well... Hopefully you can get back on track now with the money too.
DS has just started high school but on top of that he always grows over the summer - he is 11 and I've had to buy him size 9s!! in shoes, trainers etc..... Luckily we have a brantano and a sports direct near us so not as expensive as it might have been but still pretty bad! On top of that is £5 school donation, £5 for CDT, £5 for a locker and so on! Wasn't really expecting that last bit!
Hope SC, YB and 1 step are still ok plus other posters like millie!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Oh dear it is only day two back at work and I am shattered!! I have a sore throat and feel really tired..... boohoo.
Any news after the interview SH?
You are so right I need to get my spending back on track, as I was driving today it occured to me that I may not get as much as I hoped for at the next pay day, because it will be pro-rata over the year because I work term time!! Eeekkkk:eek::eek: It probably means I can pay the CC but not have any or as much to the christmas fund.... !!!!!!!!! Why oh why didn't I think of that. Oh well I will just have to wait and see. If I felt guilty before it is ten times worse now because DH has tried everything he can to get the heating working and it hasn't worked, so I can feel a big plumbers bill coming on. Is it worth just biting the bullet and getting it done or shall I wait until the weather is really cold..?? Oh I don't know.

no interview news yet Ruby - eek
I started worrying about xmas today - I have done a rummage and have 4 of the youngest and cheapest relatives and friends offspring sorted.... only another million other pressies to go! I have quite a few wrap ups I can give DD in her stocking too but almost nothing yet for DS - need to start thinking about it. I do have £10 in amazon vouchers tho - and hopefully I can build on that between now and xmas.... thro the £10 a day challenge etc...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

rubydoiwannabee wrote: »Hi all, think I might have messed up!!!! After OH successfully getting a good life of balance card with barclaycard, I thought I might do the same so that I could transfer some of my highest int debt to it. I applied and then sat wondering whether to put the 'actual' amount in when it asked the balance transfer question or whether to just choose a lower amount and transfer part of it. Anyway I put the whole lot in £5199 and it said we can't approve this now we need to discuss it with you further!!!!:eek::eek::eek:
Well what a surprise I got when I opened the post today!! A new LOB card from Barclaycard with a credit limit of £3000, which is just brilliant. It means I can transfer a big chunk of the 5K over and cut the interest by 11%!!!! :j:j
I am chuffed as bits about that.
I have only worked three days this week but boy I have really felt it, thankfully I didn't come down with anything I think the sore throat etc. was just as a result of tiredness, thank goodness.
I am still pondering what to do regarding the boiler and lack of heating, but figure if I sit on it for a while more the answer will come. Any suggestions??
How are you Cas?
SH - Christmas , I don't feel like I can do baskets, flannel cakes etc. again this year. Will you be doing any? Well done on having some presents ready, that is fab. I haven't any ideas AT ALL. DD aged 6 really wants a pink nintendo ds and because she has never had an electronic type present before I would really like to get her one. (Besides I would love to have a go at the brain training!!). So I will be scouring eBay and such like in search of a bargain for that. DS aged 14 has mentioned wanting a keyboard a few times, so I will be researching those as well. Think it is going to be costly!! Apart from that, I really liked doing baskets etc. last year so I may well try and squeeze a few in somewhere.
Anyway, enough of this christmas talk... it is only just September after all.
I'm off to have a glass of wine and relax.
Bye for now.

I gave my DD my DS and just put a pink sparkle case over it for her birthday - she was 6 she was also chuffed to bits.... (The brain training is fun too) I found that most of the games she finds difficult to play - I got her junior brain training tho which she loves (altho even that she needs help with) I got her a little games case from Amazon using vouchers from bingoport....
I have looked thro my present stash - and spent another £10 on DD. I bought her a bratz doll with pet monkey for £5 (half price) and some little petshop pets £1 each at the moment from Asda and a little paints and crayon set from Asda - that with books, glow stick, hair bobbles etc I already have means she is probably almost set. I will perhaps spend another £20 on her and then she will be done.
DS is going to be 12 and it is his xmas and birthday within days of each other... I have got him a few wrap ups but he will need more! I did him a harry potter hamper last year which he loved - he has asked for another hamper this year!
If I don't get a job - we are planning to get him a day bed for joint present - if I do have a job then this will just be an everyday thing and he can have a proper present. He desperately needs a new bed tho... I reckon and Ikea day bed and mattress with be around £100-£120. He has already had all new bedding so he doesn't need any more of that! (My MIL is planning to get him a lcd tv with build in dvd and freeview and my parents and various other people will get him more traditional pressies!)
I saw a phototray in a magazine which would be nice for my mil - it was £25 tho so I am going to see if I can get a cheaper one or something similar....Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

If you do get a DS consider one of these http://www.edge-ds.cn/?lang=en you can install lots of DS games on it (about 40 at a time) - obviously ones you already own to avoid being in breach of copywrite- t'would be very naughty of you to randomly copy other peoples games or download them from pirate bay. It comes with all the kit you need to do this including a USB adapter for approx £24 incl. delivery.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Hi everybody
Ruby hows things at work? we are really busy at the moment as 2 people have left and one is off sick with stress ( we are only a workforce of 6 nurses) and so we are 50% down and we work over 2 sites, so we are stretched very thinly. However that means I have the opportunity to do overtime :j:j which I desperatlly need to pay for DD1 and 2's birthdays and xmas of course .
SH I am so sorry you didnt get the job ( I have posted on your diary)
Millie are you still about? I went on the july support group thread recently and managed to get in touch with Tony, it would be lovely if we all got together again.
does anyone remember ' Ickkle' or something like that
just whipped up a macaroni cheese for tea, it was yummy and now i'm stuffed
hope everyone is ok xx0 -
