Uswitch & Energyhelpline Who is right
Just done a comparison on the two sites using my whole last years (annual) total gas and leccy usage
Energy helpline says british gas click energy 5 will save me £49 a year
Uswitch says british gas click energy 5 will cost me £41 a year more
ive check and the prices of the tarrifs they have on each site are the same
22.428 first 125 and 7.621 after for thr leccy
5.968 and 2.504
And just to confuse it more it says Ebico if i went for gas only says on uswich it will save me £8.37 a year
on Energy helpline its says it will save me £77 a year
both prices on each site are the same 2.860
Energy helpline says british gas click energy 5 will save me £49 a year

they use the £ amount to work out a kWh amount. They obvioulsy do it differently.
This is why you should always try to use an annual kWh amount when comparing.0 -

i did use the annual kwh usage for both (5403 gas) and (4718 leccy) i got them off SP as ive been with them 18 months thats what i cant uderstand itDony worry,be happy...0 -
I think, this instance just shows that its better to know your yearly kwh, go to the suppliers website and look at the tariffs and calculate them yourself.
This way you will know for sure what is the better option, it can take a few hours comparing, but you can be assured you will be making the right choice and saving.0 -
You cant switch to BG click 5 with Uswitch (or any BG tariffs as they dont deal with them) so they are unlikely to come up top of their comparison.
I personally dont trust Uswitch, it seems very dodgy to me, why do they ask so many questions about the size of the property and how many living there etc? Seems irrelevant to me if you have your usage. I bet its for marketing purposes rather than because some tariffs are tailored to the size of the house etc. or whatever it is they say on there. The only tariff I'm aware of thats like that is staywarm and they cant quote for that anyway.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Personally, I wouldn't use ANY switching sites, it's not rocket science to work out each energy company's cheapest tariff (it's normally an online one). Sign up to 4 of these per year (so as not to get stung by the Tier 1 charge more than you should) through Quidco or any of the other 100% cashback sites and trouser approx £250 per annum for your troubles.Call me Carmine....

And troubles are exactly what that could lead to, I'd change once or twice a year at the most (if I wasnt on a capped deal)
I cant see the point in changing so often just to get cashback, it could lead to all sorts of problems with suppliers and meter readings etc.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Why?These are online deals where YOU supply the meter readings. If you accept it's a legitimate tactic then switching 4 times per year is the way to maximise your benefit IMO. Effectively, what you are saying is approx £120 is not incentive enough to sort out any potential problems. I've never had a problem so far, certainly not one that would have used up more than 60 mins of my time per year total. Who on here earns £120 per hour?

I am David Losinski from Energyhelpline. As there are a number of questions about the service, Martin has given us permission to answer questions (though not plug
) on here so people are helped out more quickly.
I ran the energy values you quoted above (5403 gas and 4718 electricity) for ScottishPower and would like to say that our site includes a £10.50 dual fuel discount when it estimates your yearly spend. I have checked with ScottishPower and this is correct. This is however not included on uswitch and hence there is a discrepancy on their site.
Unfortunately, I could not get the values you quoted in your original post. If you could rerun your comparison, taking care when entering values then you should get a current spend of £879 if you are on ScottishPower standard quarterly billing and a saving of £277 switching to BG Click Energy 5.
Hope this has been of use......if you are still having difficulties you can reply to this post and we will try and help you further.
And as I say the discrepancy between energyhelpline and uswitch should only be £10-11 if the identical values are entered across the different sites.
