I have changed my sons phone from 3 to O2, then got his SE z610i unlocked. He can get internet but I can't seem to change it so that it has O2 homepage rather than 3 as the 3 homepage now goes nowhere. He also cannot use his MSN. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

think you need to "debrand" the phone with non 3 software to be able to get to change it

I think the MSN application on the phone is specific to 3 so it won't work on other networks. Microsoft have released one that works on other networks but at the moment its only for Nokia and Windows Mobile phones plus you have to pay £1.50 a month for it.

yep, the MSN client is made specifically for the 3 network

here's the debranding guide. Be aware that you may loose the unlock if the phone was patch unlocked, however, if its still cid52 you should be able to patch it for free yourself

Woman at O2 just told me that the O2 store might debrand my phone for me, sounds too easy?

if they did, they would either use SEUS (sony ericsson update service) and that would update it to the latest orange branded software and upgrade it to CID53 which means you would probably be looking at unlocking it again at a slightly higher price or sending it away to sony ericsson (who will upgrade it to cid53) for a debrand.

just for reference, CID** = the security on the handset

I am extremely confused because despite being not to bad with gadjets this is all going right over my head I'm afraid. Just had a 70 mile round trip to O2 store and they could not do it, angry with the original sales person who told me the phone would take the sim card no problem, had she said that there may be a problem then this situation would have been my tough luck. I checked out the debrand link and looked far too complicated for a novice. Any suggestions on a place to send it and pay for debranding although O2 store seemed to think even that may not work. Sorry to be a pain but this is my son's phone and being autistic it's the main source of communication for him on IM as he doesn't much like talking to people.

have a look at davinciteam.com or wotanserver.com. they will both debrand the phone over the internet for a small charge.

just make sure that you have a GDFS backup and CID52 firmware before you start debranding it

i personally have used wotanserver before and it took around 15 mins to download the f/w and around 10 to reflash and debrand a w810

Thank-you for all your suggestions, just an update. I have just downloaded operamini onto the phone and went into msn homepage from there and got straight into messenger. Internet browser was much better as well.
