Spybots a bit of a weird setup. It needs UPDATING. THEN you need to IMMUNISE (Which is how it stops the nasties when your browsing)
Then you can scan:idea:0 -
i've just had a message pop up from spybot. it says,
it has detected an important registry entry that has been changed.
category: session manager
change: value changed
entry: bootexecute
old data: autocheck autochk *\
new data: autocheck autochk *\Isdelete\
then i have to allow or deny the change.
what should i do?0 -
oh no
Uve got TEA TIMER settings switched on (its horrible)
You can allow that ~ dont worry
goto MODE and switch to ADVANCED
then TOOLS and RESIDENT
UNTICK resident TEA TIMER
Then switch back to DEFAULT MODE:idea:0 -
Yep, allow that.0

well i've sorted that tea timer thing.
adaware is currently scanning. it says it has found 44 infections so far. however spybot said there are incompatibility issues between spybot and adaware. it says it is due to backups spybot makes that adaware doesnt like. so i am hoping those 44 are simply backups made by spybot.0 -
The incompatabilty bit is if spybot finds nasties and theyre not deleted
Its nothing to worry about either way as theres no REAL compatability issues.
The infections will probably just be 'cookies' it doesnt like which is quite normal. It will tell you at the end how dangerous the actual infections are (Cookies are generally nothing to worry about):idea:0 -
ok, adaware has finished. in total it found no critical objects and 46 privacy objects. 44 of which are tracking cookies which i know arent serious. there are two other items called MRU objects. one seems to be to do with my user profile and the other to the registry key.
so i am going to get rid of the cookies but what about these two MRU objects? are they serious? shouLd i get rid of them?0 -

They are just Most Recently Used lists that display what you've, as you've guessed, mean what you've recently used..
Do you still have your installation media for Windows?0 -
it says the cookies are level 3 risk.0

Do you still have your installation media for Windows?
do you mean a cd for the operating system? no disc came with the pc but it had the option to make my own backup which i did do. i think it was one cd for the boot disc and two dvds for the system.
with me having the backup discs and the pc also having a seperate d drive a virus or whatever messing the system up while being a big pain wouldnt be the end of the world. my fear is if there was something bad on my pc that it would get hold of personal information like credit card details when i shop online.0
