State pension - quick question

I've heard that on the gov site - you can check up as to what pension you can expect when you retire. I've not been able to find it :o duh....

All I've found so far is.. that at my age, I will not be able to retire at 60 as the law is changing? And have to work to 65?? Oh lord, I am so tired now.......... let alone in a few years time.

It depends how old you are. The increase is being brought in gradually - it doesn't jump from 60 to 65 in one go.

    Have a look here - https://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/state-pension/forecast/home.asp

I've requested a pension forecast... I have to wait a few days to receive that. I'm hoping that I will be able to afford to retire!

May pension age is 60years 11months and two days.... Not too bad then!

    Brilliant link - thanks!

Glad that you were able to get your Pension Forecast ok... it does amaze me though the amount of people I know who really do not have a clue that they will be working way past 60 and when I enlighten them are horrified... I thank my lucky stars I am not one of them...:T

I know - I have filled in the form and they send an activation code or something in the post, then I go back online and put in the code - and apparently I get the forecast.

I'm not that optimistic - its tricky when you have worked, then stayed at home for children etc and then gone back to work later.

I'm not married anymore, so I hope that I have sufficient to live on... :o probably not if am realistic!

  • If you have claimed Child Benefit since 1974, your pension is protected. Depending upon your age, you either get Home Responsibility Protection, or NI Credits.

This has been on the cards for at least ten years and I, like Tanith am always amazed that people don't know.

I'm not one of them either as my Retirement date is January 2010 - one of the last women to get my pension at 60 years 0 months 0 days.

That is interesting. Thank you for that information.

Should you need any assistance with car repairs & maintenance - may be I can offer you some help one day! :D

I have a wealth of experience to offer - but not with regards to pensions! Guess that is why this site is so good. To help one another, share our knowledge in many areas.
