Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
A further 60 quid will arrive in January to anyone who got the tenner.
Not just pensioners.

Glad that you were able to get your Pension Forecast ok... it does amaze me though the amount of people I know who really do not have a clue that they will be working way past 60 and when I enlighten them are horrified... I thank my lucky stars I am not one of them...:T
How many people are aware that it is rising to 68!
Any one born after 6th August 1959 it's now 66, August 1968 = 67 & 1977 = 68 :eek:Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
I personally knew that Meadows (my son born in 1980 has a State Pension age of 68), but thanks for pointing it out as I'm sure many people don't know.
Be aware that this is not necessarily your retirement date - you can retire whenever you like providing you have the means (such as an Occupational Pension) to do so - you just can't have your State Pension until you are 68.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

In looking into this I found an interesting loophole, but it's probably known to you well educated people. It's too late for me, but I have advised my kids to be aware of it.
If you earn between (I think) £390 and £450 per month, you don't have NI deducted but you are credited with NI contributions for that year :T .
It also might be interesting to people trying to "top up" to reach the 30 year mark for state pension entitlement.
Not often you get something for nothing from this government.

An intereisting loophole, indeed. The gap is between the Lower earnings limit and the earnings threshold.

Carol that will be really useful for my son to know, as that is about what he earns. Thanks!(AKA HRH_MUngo)
