Can you tell us who the tour operator is who said this ?

Do they specialise in flights to USA or Europe ?

I am going to Mykonos from Manchester a week on Friday and don't see an alternative flight there with another airline, I have also booked a ferry to Paros, I am looking for alternatives elsewhere just in case.

I really don't think anyone can speculate what will happen, we will all have to wait and see.

    Fingers crossed

  • I suspect the cancellations Laurencered was talking about were for the Caribbean routes which have been cancelled by XL from early November. The rest of their business is short haul and Florida which is where they are strong! I'm sure they will be fine, its in nobody's interest for them to go under and these rumours aren't helpful to them or passengers with bookings in the future!

I really hope you are right TT, and I agree it is not helpful to cause unneccessary stress and worry to people with what appears to be a rumour. If Laurencered was meaning the Carribean routes then I hope he will clarify it.

Thank you, I feel a lot easier now :-)

  • From what I can gather from elsewhere, they are scaling down the Carribean section to concentrate wholly on Florida. Customers have been contacted by Travel City Direct stating as much.

  • What I have gheared is they are scalling down the long haul (except Florida) due to the high cost of hedging the fuel for the long haul routes. On short haul, as they are really the only independent charter airline in the UK now (the others being Thomas Cook & Thomson) the majority of independent tour operators all share on the XL Flights so they are Guaranteed a good persentage of the aircraft seats will be paid for (by other tour operators) even if the flight goes empty, so they are concentrating on the short haul where there is less risk and more profit for them. It's just good managment, cut out the area of highest risk.

I would be more worried if I was booked on Alitalia or Aer Lingus!

Yep I cannot ever see them scaling down Florida as that is their biggest seller and they are renowned in Britain for this.
  • Guys I've got flights booked to fly to Grenada from 12th October coming back on the 26th.

Are my flights still valid, just? as I think most people are saying flights are cancelled from November onwards.
