British Gas Click Energy 5 tariff
The Money Supermarket website (http://www.moneysupermarket.com/utilities/gas-electricity-prices.aspx) says that British Gas put up it's prices against all products on 30/07/2008, and yet the British Gas Click Energy 5 tariff seems to be so much cheaper for my comparison results. I've read elsewhere in this forum that Click Energy 5 may be withdrawn soon to be replaced by Click Energy 6.
My question concerns the Click Energy 5 prices. Would it be right to assume that the Click Energy 5 prices won't change in the short term? I don't want to sign on and then almost immediately (i.e. before the next major round of price hikes) I find that Click Energy 5 prices change. Can anyone advise me please?
Cheers,
Mark

If you do a search you will find many posts advising that Click 5 is still to rise. It usually happens a few weeks after general rises are announced.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Thanks Joyful. I guess this is a clever ploy from British Gas. Leave a loss-leader product in the market place, wait for a switch frenzy to place lots of customers in their hands, and then jack up the prices.
We need the comparison engines to list, per entry, when the price of that offering was last changed.

I am also a bit peeved by this, as it is not the "level playing field" that the comparison sites will have us believe.
The two cheapest being E-on extra saver 8 and BG click 5, neither of which appear to have been increased as yetNever put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

IMO Click 5 was launched because BG were losing many punters (plus they must have amassed a decent pile of wonga from selling their 2010 fixed product the year before), the ones savvy enough to know that BGs standard tariff is not to be approached by anyone with more than half a brain. It's a bit like tyre manufacturers - most of the major ones sell a branded (and heavily advertised) 'premium' product and also sell an incredibly similarly-specced one (under a different brand name) that sells for much less. The theory is they are then selling to both ends of the market...and the huge profit margin from the branded product allows them to sell the 'hidden branded' tyre at a much more value for money price. IMO BG employ the same marketing concept (apart from the fact that Click 5 isn't a 'hidden' brand, although IMO it's never been advertsied extensively).
It says a lot about the savviness (or, rather un-saviness and blinding apathy;) ) of the typical british punter when you realise that BGs standrad rate is STILL an incredibly popular tariff. The fact that, even after many years of de-regulation, BT still more or less dominate the residential phone market, backs up my theory.Call me Carmine....

I went on the comparison sites today and switched from my current tarrif (Scottish Hydro Best Plan economy 10). I switched to Click Energy 5 as it came out way cheaper on all the sites.
What I am not sure is though how Scottish Gas provide their economy settings. ScottishHydro give 3 periods of off peak tarriff (2 of which are during the day).
So could I be cheaper staying put based on the way Scottish gas split their off peak times? Or will i still be cheaper.
I find trying to work out the whole thing of whether you are "really" cheaper or not very confusing.
Our heating system is a brand new "wet" electric boiler system. I am led to believe they are very efficient. On Hydro we were paying £31.00 per month which easily covered heating and electric for 4 bedroom house (we only have electric).
I still firmly believe that there is collusion among all the suppliers and also the switch sites, and it is kept deliberately confusing for all.
Any advice and help is appreciated.0 -

Thats what happened last price increase round albeit was click 4 in force at the time.
I wouldnt let it worry you, switch via Quidco or Cashback Kings get the 60.00 cashback after the switch has taken place re-access the situation and either stay on click 5, switch to what will in all probability be click 6 or switch to another provider and bank another cashback, Its a no brainer imo.0 -

That does sound like a top plan. Currently I'm with nPOWER who give you a £100 direct debit discount on your yearly anniversary with them, no doubt to discourage switcher-holics. However at £60 cashback/switch you could save a good deal in a year. Food for though. Thanks.

Just been onto Quidco site they state **Cashback is only available to customers who are NEW to British Gas.**
**Existing British Gas customers cannot receive cashback.**
Therefore looks unlikely that existing customers switching to Click 5 from previous Click will get anything! Anybody tried it?0 -
Used to get this (click 4 to click 5) but I guess now you have to switch away and backI think....0
