using a local payg sim in canada ????

Does anybody know if when you are using a local payg sim in Canada will you be charged for incoming calls & texts . Its the first time i've been to Canada so i'm not sure how the mobile networks charge . I'm with o2 in the UK but have been told to avoid using my o2 sim when over in canada because of the high call costs .
Many thanks for any help .

Using your o2 mobile whilst in Canada will be extortionate.

Using a local SIM whilst in Canada will be a lot cheaper, however due to the way the charging works in North America you will be charged to receive calls - that's the system over there.

In most countries the caller pays the extra cost of the call, in North America the callee pays the extra cost - so you pay to receive calls.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Just to add to your answer the price of receiving a call is about 50% less than that of making a call. I used Rogers Wireless when I was in Canada as it was cheapest to call internationally and receiving calls internationally. The reception was great even when in the back of beyond.

Oh and have a great time. Canadians a really friendly and very welcoming. Don't forget to add the tax on to any purchases as I forgot a couple of times and the bargain ended up not being such a bargain!
