From what I understand the purpose of the D drive is mainly to use it to back up the C drive,
If the C drive fails, the D drive will most likely fail too if they're on the same physical disk - so this isn't really the point.

If you save data etc to the D drive, you can just back this up and save the time it takes to copy all the windows/system files every time you do it.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I will play it safe and move photos/docs etc to the D drive.

One reply though mentioned creating an xp cd which I feel would probably be a good idea. Can anyone tell me how to go about this please?

Hi, you will not be able to create an XP installation setup disc.

Here are some further options that you can do.

    1. Some system file check operations require access to the XP installation disc.
As you do not have the installation disc, then you need to ascertain if the CD-ROM image has been installed on your hard drive. This is the I386 folder.
A guide is here if required.

    2. You can create an image of your current hard drive. Acronis True Image is quite popular for this or use the link for Macrium Reflect mentioned earlier.
Whichever software you use, the image will need to be stored on a separate hard drive or other removable media.
In the event that your current internal drive fails, the image can be installed on the new drive via the imaging boot disc that must be created when using this type of software.
