Clutton - naughty ;) you did not quote the rest of that paragraph.

Boyfriend had agreed, & not told the poster, except via email which she had not read.

I had a very similar problem with a couple who were moving, due to splitting up. Not realising how bad the split was, I arranged with him to get a man round for a quote before they left. Turns out he wasn't on speaking terms with her, & she was rather shocked when I turned up "unannounced". Even with an appointment & tenants saying they will be out, out of courtesy I always ring the doorbell first.

Lesson - don't let to couples. They inevitably don't communicate, then split up & it's all your fault :p

I don't think so - most people are fine. Have you been reading too much from the Daily Mail?!

Rubbish. These people are all over every town and city. Do you not see the news or your local paper?

i know i know - i just could not resist

anyway - why is it the landlord at fault if the tenants aren't talking to each other ? .... sighs .... we can't win - again ..........

if tenants knew how many phone calls and pleadings it often takes to get workmen out at all, they would welcome them with open arms ........

In this day and age most landlords and workmen will have mobile phones so then can ring ahead with revised appointment times if they are running early/late. I see little excuse for failing to do that. If I'm expecting, say the CORGI man, then I always request that they ring in when they're due and I haven't met one that would not happily do that. Usually they say, just leaving now am due in 1/2 hour or whatever. It helps them too as they know they won't have to wait to get in.

It's up to the landlord to explain to any workmen that the property is tenanted so they need to let someone know of revised times. It isn't that difficult. The workman would have to advise an owner occupier of a changed appointment anyway as they would not have the key! So just why is it any different for tenants? It seems to me that as landlords have the key some think they can be sloppy!
  • OP - did your LL say anything about your DD's stickers? That was the original point of the thread wasn't it?!

I have read through some of the posts here with my jaw on the floor.

Because Landlords are quick to repair something, doesn't mean they are totally harmless.

I agree, He could be a genuinely nice person, but how do you know?

The answer is you don't, so there should be respect for the tenants rights.

You know, Sometimes landlords do bad things!
