I'm wondering what your experiences are with them...
I signed up for a free 14 day trial (10 days ago) and still haven't had a film.
The first disc went missing in the post and I have to fill in postal claims paperwork else they charge me £10.
They have just dispatched another DVD to me... and I have no idea why they have sent me it - it isn't one of the 12 on my list of choices
My 'free' trial is nearly over, the whole thing has been a real hassle, and I haven't even seen a DVD yet. Therefore, I want to cancel my free trial. I have to do this by Wednesday, else they will make me a paying member and take money from my bank account.
I just phoned up to do it. They said I can't cancel it because I still have one of their DVD's (the one that they posted out to me today, and I don't even want it). They said the DVD may arrive Tuesday so I wouldn't be able to send it back to them by Wednesday and therefore I will become a paying member on Wednesday and they will take money from me. I said erm NO I DON'T THINK SO!!! What a cheek. 'Free' trial, none of my chosen DVD's have been provided and now they want to charge me anyway. So not only was my free trial rubbish; it wasn't even guaranteed to be free.
They have given me an extra 4 days to return their DVD to them without being charged. This is still a pain cos I now have to go to a post office on a work day (which isn't possible).
Grrrrrrr

Or you could just put it in a post box like a normal person:rolleyes:
You got something for nothing
Stop moaning like a !!!!!0 -
I've been using Lovefilm for over 2 years. I've yet to need to use a post office!0

Besides, I think you are missing my point. This isn't a moan about going to the post office. Every aspect of my free trial has been IMO very poor. I have not seen a single DVD. Yet, they are willing to charge me money for a DVD that was sent to me as part of a 'FREE' trial, furthermore it was a DVD that I didn't even ask to hire and I won't get to watch.
Now, my original question and reason for posting, was to ask about other MSE'ers experiences of the service. Are you going to answer that? Or are you just going to have a go?0 -
Could you put it in your work post tray as it comes with a prepaid return envelope?

I usually do that with my post yes, but the reception staff tell me that they can't do proof of postage from there (which LOVE Film have insisted I get in this instance). If noone else here on MSE has to get proof of postage for LOVE Film then I wonder why their assistant has told me that I have too...0 -

the LF rep is giving advice to obtain proof of postage incase they dont get the item0 -
We have used LoveFilm for over a year now, starting with the free trial.
We have never had a problem. Nearly every film (or game now) registers as returned soon after 10am on the day after we post them0 -

Ignore LinasPilibaitisisbatman he's probably Yuktim29's evil twin or maybe one of his aliases
Lovefilm seem to be either very good or really rubbish and it is very much the luck of the draw.I'm not with them now but have been in the past along with Blockbuster and Video Island.
They probably sent you a film that's not from your list because you only have 12 films on your list. They like you to have at least 20 so they have plenty of choice.
They've probably asked you to get proof of postage because I'm sure there are people who have had a free trial and then claimed not to have received any discs and then just kept them. I'm not suggesting for one minute that you have done that but there are dishonest people around.
If you were hoping for a freebie couple of rentals and then to cancel then it looks like you've been unlucky this time.
If you were genuinely trying out the service then maybe you should give it a month to see how they are for you.If youdo that make sure you cancel well before the due date. This board is full of messages from people who tried to get 'just one more' from LF and got stung for another month! Empty your list and ring them to confirm cancellation.
In my experience they start out well with films coming thick and fast and then the service drops off - slows down and you don't get your top of the list choices. It also drops off around holiday times eg Xmas and Easter. You think you'll have films to watch while you're off work but the service almost grinds to a halt then.
I've got a Cineworld Unlimited card now so I don't use DVDs by post just local Blockbuster for the odd film I missed or that Cineworld didn't show for some reason. Better value for me.
HTHDon't grow up. Its a trap!
Peace, love and labradors!0 -
Oddly enough, as a 30 year old, I do have an awareness of the existance of post boxes and the purpose for which they are intended.;) The LOVE Film representative on the phone, specifically stated that in this instance, I must obtain proof of postage - hence I must go to a post office (which is difficult when they are miles from where I work, and are only open when I am at work)
sorry if my reply seemed to ignore your previous post (specifically the bit above) - it wasn't there when I posted so I didn't realise LF had insisted you get proof of postage.
I never had to get POP, but perhaps they have advised you do so due to the problems you have been having. Hope it gets sorted ok.

Ah ok. They sent me an email that said to have 10, so I added ten straight away but haven't had chance to add any more yet. They've probably asked you to get proof of postage because I'm sure there are people who have had a free trial and then claimed not to have received any discs and then just kept them. Hmmm... I would be wanting to watch the films during the holidays, so perhaps this won't be ideal for me.
It does seem very hit and miss as you describe. I have found people who can't fault the service and others who have had no end of problems. One friend told me last night that she had over 40 on her list and still mostly got sent things that she didn't want to watch.
Thanks for your help anyway.0
