    bit download

    emptied recycle bin
Run System restore but even after that all those nasty icons were still there, and I could not go back any further!

run Hijack this and applied a couple of fixes as highlighted on the Hijackthis Detective

    I still have the problem

I got a prompt to install Vista Service Pack 1 and it did not install and it had to revert changes

I am at complete loss and dont know what to do
surely someone know how to solve this / there must be a program that can solve this :(

try this ~ this is free

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
    alternate download link 1
    alternate download link 2
    • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
    • Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
    • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
    • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
      • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Then click Finish.
    • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
    • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
    • On the Scanner tab:
      • Make sure the "Perform Quick Acan" option is selected.
      • Then click on the Scan button.
    • The next screen will ask you to select the drives to scan. Leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
    • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
    • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
    • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
    • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
    • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
    • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware

if it still not working then i advise to try another anti virus (Mcafee is c*ap)
First up i would recommend that (if possible) whatever changes the REGISTRY program did, reverts them back again (Most registry programs save backups for this purpose)

    Download avg ~
    http://www.grisoft.cz/filedir/inst/avg_free_stf_en_8_169a1359.exe
    do NOT install
    Switch on windows firewall
disconnect internet and remove ALL of mcafee
reboot and make sure its gone and install avg (Make sure u know where the file is to do this)
    Reconnect internet
Then update and run a FULL scan

Other things to try are spybot
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
update it, IMMUNISE then run a full scan

    and adaware
    http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2008/3000-8022_4-10045910.html
    update and run FULL scan

If its still not working im afraid its looking like the hard drive needs a complete wipe and vista (or xp) needs reinstalling
If it DOES work then you need a decent firewall but lets see how it goes first.........

  • winrar is ok but you should down load apps like that from secure sites such as www.downloads.com (you can get everything there, Limewire, torrent apps, Anti virus prog, zip apps ect).

Limewire is rife with viruses ect, I wouldnt touch it witha barge pole, and I always recommend people stay away as I have heard nothing but horror stories. Soon as someone asks me to look at their PC and I switch it on I see the limewire icon I just know its prob going to be a full reinstall.

But seriously if your pc is riddled with malware, adware ect, sometimes its better just reinstalling from your recovery CDs. Then you have a nice fresh install. Then the first things you install are a Virus checker, spybot, malwarebytes and a firewall.

  • weve had a few viruses in the past, what we do now is to back up the information on the laptop to the iPod then too the tower now and then.

Then reformat the computer. Its had the 1st time as you have to download all the updated drivers again, but if you create a cd with all them on it, it becomes only 2 hours of wasted time..
