  • There is a discount code on this Kiddicare Site, but I don’t know if it is current or not
  • yeah we have the Linden pressure ones top and bottom of the stairs, you do have to regularly check they are tight (our DS once threw a temper tantrum and shook the gate that hard it was hanging down the stairs lol!

definitely a pain if you are trying to carry anything up the stairs but the overall safety value outweighs the nuisance value I think

  • i have the kiddyguard - had it for about 5 years now since first child was born. They are brill - well worth the money, as you only notice it is there when you need it!
  • Hi

I'd like to make a suggestion, and I hope you aren't horrified by what I say :/ I don't know any particular brand, but by far the safest option is one of the fabric panelled gates. I used to work in A&E, and we had a dead-on-arrival patient once; a woman who had fallen down the stairs and had a very serious and very messy head injury as a result of the bars in the gate. Not something which is nice to tell people, I'm afraid, but it should help you make a decision. _pale_

Have you looked at the Ikea one? It's £28 normally but if you're a family member it's £21. We've got one to stop the dog going upstairs and it's great. It's the sort that screws into the wall so there is no bar or anything to trip over. It can also be taken off the hinge in seconds if you need to for taking furniture or whatever up and downstairs and not having to try and hold the gate open!

  • We had wooden ones from Toys r us. Definitely put them at the top as well as the bottom then you can relax more when you are upstairs with the baby/toddler. We also put one on the kitchen door which meant I could cook safely without an ankle biter under my feet but could still see what they were up to.
  • We have had a few gates - the best we found (imo) was the wooden one from ikea. Although not quite as toddler proof as the ones with the twist handles perfectly suitable (especially lo doesn't have older sibling(s) to teach them how to get out...)

At the last house we had 1 gate at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom (which could be a real pain for the grown ups but was good for keeping the kids where they should be... then we moved and just needed to put a gate on dd2 bedroom doorway (so she wouldn't try to wander up/downstairs in the middle of the night) Until her big brother taught her how to open the bloomin' thing! She was about 2.5yrs then - although it took him until he was 5 to figure it out!

We had this one here : http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50113599
