Do you have a modem or a combined modem/router?
In either case go into the set up menu and check that you have "Always Connected" selected rather than "Disconnect after x minutes inactivity"

If you're using a USB modem (something that came free with your broadband connection when you signed up) the settings for disconnecting after no activity are probably under the connection icon you use to get online (try properties?). If you have a "proper" router/modem it'll be in the settings - usually accessed through the web interface (although I can't think of a router/modem that would do this).
It might also be your firewall - sometimes they are set to block all traffic when the screen saver starts (that being said I would have thought it'll unblock all traffic when the screen saver stops ...)
If it's neither of the suggestions, try and more info, i.e. sit and watch the computer (but don't touch!) and see if something particular happens before you're disconnected. Boring I know, but it could be something really obvious that you'll never guess unless you see it happen!!0 -
I am on the free modem from wanadoo!
It has only started happening today so not sure whats happened, if i just watch nothing happens just look at the modem and lights have gone off but the little computer icon is still there as connected but im not- arrrgggh
p.s settings are never to disconnect if idle!0 -
If you are talking about the two green lights on the modem (assuming they haven't changed models since I was a customer of theirs), they should stay on even when disconnected. If the lights on the modem are going off, then that might point to a problem with your phone line.helen21 wrote:I am on the free modem from wanadoo!

Oh right, as soon as i click on dissconnect and then click connect the lights come back on and im back connected, how will i know if it phone line or modem?masonic wrote:If you are talking about the two green lights on the modem (assuming they haven't changed models since I was a customer of theirs), they should stay on even when disconnected. Not easily. If it always happens after a fixed period of time, then it probably isn't the phone line. I know I used to get dropped connections from wanadoo occasionally, but not like this. What model number is written on the bottom of the modem? Do both lights go off? Do you get a flashing red one?helen21 wrote:Oh right, as soon as i click on dissconnect and then click connect the lights come back on and im back connected, how will i know if it phone line or modem?0 -
Speedtouch 330 and both lights just go out!0

I think it's your power saving options. The power to USB devices is probably being cut, which is why your modem is cutting out. Are you running off battery power? Does plugging it in to the mains solve the problem? You can probably sort this out within 'Power Options' in control panel.helen21 wrote:Speedtouch 330 and both lights just go out!0 -
