There are currently a load of deals on just now on the Dodge Nitro 3.7 Petrol from about £138 + VAT via 3 + 23 months deal. Obviously not selling but who cares you don't own it.

It will work out at a years motoring for £2108. All VED should also be included in that price and if you stick to the 10,000 mileage limit you will only habve one service to pay in that two year period.

Based on the What Car new target price of £21,487 (most probably can be bought cheaper) that makes this car as cheap as chips.

Never mind the fuel consumption feel the width!

Fuel Consumptiom:- 23.3 mpg (combined). This is the big OUCH!!

    Yip.

I'm a big fan of personal leasing. It's the way forward.

Free tax disc each year and free delivery/collection too.

Just to add there is also a deal on the Jeep Commander 3.0 CRD Ltd for £249 + VAT on 3+12 months for those who need a real 4x4.

Remember this is the great Mercedes engine.

    Target Price £29,986
  • That is a remarkable price.

There's no mention of how much the deposit for that is though - could be quite a bit.

Still, if you do the right kind of driving, that is a seriously appealing proposition. Those Nitro things are a lot bigger in the metal than they look in pictures too.

The whole 'SUVs are evil' movement has its upsides, clearly!

The Way these things work is taking 3+23.

That means the deposit is 3 times the monthly payment. Which is standard, what you have to watch out for are such deals a 6+23 which look great until you work them out..

I tend to just add (3 + 23) and in this instance divide by 24 to give a real monthly cost.

    :o

I read right over that bit in the ad without taking it in. How thick do I feel now.

Too busy looking for a catch that wasn't there.

    Gotcha, so..

    £138 + VAT @ 17.5% = £162.15.
    £162.15 x (3+23) = £4215.90 / 24 = £175.66, real total, inc VAT.

Seems too be good to be true.. Would the car be brand new? What happens after the 24 months, give the car back with nothing to pay, case closed, end of term?
  • Yes Jammin, that's how they work as a lease is literally just a long term hire...you aren't buying the car at any point, just hiring it off the owner (the leasing company or banking funder to whom it belongs). It's not like a PCP where you have the option to buy at the end with a balloon payment, with lease/contract hire you are just paying for a monthly rental.

The tax disc isn't 'free' - it is built into the deal! You need to check the small print of all deals as some will only inc' the tax for the first year in the quote, and you must be accurate with your forecast mileage as if you underestimate there are some very heavy excess mileage payments attached to many hire deals if you get rose coloured glasses on and sign up to an attractive 10k mpa deal when you end up doing 15kmpa!

It is up to you to maintain the car in line with manuf'r warranty requirements and hand it back in good condition, as they will also charge you excess wear if it arrives back 'shedded' ( to use a technical term!!)

There are some really good deals around right now on long term hires for business and personal users...we've been inundated in the last 2 wks with deals on various brands..notably among the better deals have been Honda (Civics especially), Peugeot, Audi, Mercedes, Lexus....

Most people take a 2yr or 3yr deal.

  • The reason that it's being leased at that price is because its a crap car, with a shoddy interior, poor ride, crap build quality, thirsty and underpowered engine, and ugly to boot.

But feel free, if all that's important to you is to own something 'new'.

At the end of the day you get a new car under warranty without any headaches even if it is a crap car. Most cars on the market nowadays are far from crap. In the 70s and 80s plenty of cars were crap and mediocre. But new build quality has increased. I drive all sorts of hire cars and sometimes I wince at being told that I've got a Chevy Lacetti or a Kia C'eed but the Chevy is OK for it's price and the C'eed was almost as good as a Focus.

I too would reinterate that the mileage caps need to be accurate. If you drive a short journey to and from work and maybe pop out every other weekend then a 10k limit is OK and the lease will work for you.

If you're like me where one minute my annual mileage is 15k and the next year is 45k then it ain't for you.
