How many amps is 30ma. Is it 0.03 amp or 0.003 amp.
I know my P.I.R sensors on my new security lights use 30ma when on standby. If I how many amps this is I can work out how many watts they use using the formula watts=volts x amps.
Thanks.

1 amp = 1000ma if I recall.

Correct
1000mA does equal 1A, and off the top of my head 5A is 1150 Watts or 1.15Kw
So in response to gord115's post 30mA is equal to 0.03A or 6.9Watts (assuming they run on a constant 230V)
Icidentally, and this is the geek in me coming out now, the standard UK voltage is 230V @ 50Hz, however I have noticed this varies considerably, for instance at my mum and dads house you can get roughly 225V downstairs, but upstairs can be as little as 215! My house runs at a fairly constant 238V. Anyone else noticed this or have you all got lives?0 -

Google can do conversions now:

You could try your tongue - the higher the voltage - the bigger the tingle I have always found !:DTo infinity and beyond!0 -
So does this mean my secutity light are using 6.9 watt even when they are idle i.e during daylight.
I could have an 11watt low energy light on all night for less than that!0 -
Yes that is correct !To infinity and beyond!0

yes it is 6.9W ...but how could a 11W bulb take less than 6.9W?????
and are you sure that its running off 230V as it could be 110vSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0
