is it possible ?

i know the V8 is a 2G phone, but i've heard that some "3" sims will work in 2G phones ..

will have problems if it doesn't .. might have to get one of those unlocking sims if it doesn't ..

it "might" no guarantee.....even if it does 3 will eventually block the sim anyhow..3 provide a 3G signal on network..if you drop out of 3G coverage it goes to 2G (3 use orange as a network) 3 have to pay for the priveledge of using this 2G network..so anyone doing what you are thinking eventually will have the sim card blocked

see you say this, but when I originally got my V3X, which I no longer have, I flashed the software to remove the network lock (i didn't unlock the phone) so that I could de-select the 3G network as I had terrible reception where I lived - my flat is close to a known hole in 3G reception.

I had my V3X on 2.5g for well over a year with absolutely no issues whatsoever and had 5 bars reception all the way.

    *EDIT

it's a moot point at the moment because i've just discovered i've lost my 3 sim ..

Do they? Didn't they use O2 when they first launched? It's be pretty ironic if Three were now using Orange as their 2G fallback partner.. :rotfl:

They did....BUT a few weeks ago signed a cheaper deal with orange...after the trouble I had with orange perhaps now's not a great time to buy a skypephone...oops!

although saying that it does seem like they're listening....rumor has is they are considering taking on T-mobile as a partner as well

As well or instead? I'm assuming that Vodafone are too expensive, since they're considering Orange and T-Mobile, who both use inferior GSM 1800mhz as opposed to the more superior GSM 900mhz as used by O2 and Vodafone.

Just to clear up any confusion, GSM 1800 is not technically inferior to GSM 900..........they offer the same functionality. All it is to do with is the area that a cell covers. A higher frequency generally means an operator needs more cell sites to get the same coverage.

Orange used to advertise that they had more base-stations than any other UK operator........this is why, they had to to give the same level of coverage.

Also, Three started Roaming onto Orange last summer and I believe some of the older O2 roaming sims have been disconnected recently.......this would normally happen when upgrades are sent out, they would send a new SIM which roams onto Orange, rather than O2. Basically the network share rates on Orange are cheaper than O2 so 3 will want to migrate people away sooner rather than later.

Quite funny really, where I live the O2 and 3 coverage is pretty crap, but Orange is OK, which is why I took out the 3 contract which had loads more minutes for less!

And finally, NO, a V8 won't work with a 3 SIM in as far as I am aware. My V8 certainly didn't.
