Thankfully I do not live on the Costa del Crime but in a traditional village halfway up a mountain!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Sadly, after many years of looking forward to Spanish retirement, we have shelved the idea. I think the only way for us now would be to rent long termish. Deffo will not buy.
Well after spending only an hour or so (so only less than 1% of the research done, so bear with me for any niavity) it seems to me if we want to winter (3 months) out in Spain renting is a far better option to buying.
Does anyone know what sort of rent we should expect to pay for a 2 bed country house between approx Dec 1st and end Feb? I found a website with plenty decent looking properties on it for less than £500/month, but these were stated as 'long term rentals' maybe 3 months would be too short to enjoy those low rents? We would probably be looking in the countryside in a small town/village trype location not too far from Malaga although anywhere in Southern Spain would do. We probably need to appreciate the pro's and con's of the various areas in Southern Spain. We would want to take our dog with us (he's a friendly lab) I am hoping that would not present any problems0 -
I'm not terribly familiar with renting, but I think three months would class as a long term rent (as opposed to the one or two-week holiday lets).
Don't forget it can still be very cold in southern Spain in the winter but at least the sun usually shines!
As for a recommendation, try Torrox Pueblo (not Torrox Costa) - a beautiful village 47km from Malaga, slightly inland, coast five minutes drive

Thanks, well the temps I am working on, taken from the BBC's website is a daily highest ave temp of 61f (sorry I still work in old money that's 16c) in Southern Spain. I suspect that it must be about right as it would be based on actual historical temperatures, but would you think in your experience that would be about right ie winter Southern Spain = Spring Southern England? If so that suits me fine as its mainly dog walking and escaping the winter (not sunbathing) that interests us0 -

You should be OK, although I have no experience of the coast that far west. It can be windy and rainy, but as I say, the sun normally shines.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

In the current climate I guess that you could name your own price.
I have friends with rental properties in Florida and Spain.
The USA residents spend weeks negotiating on the rental price.
The UK residents pay the asking price.0 -
torreblanca del sol near fuengirola is the area i know , nipples on the beach on december the 2nd is amazing to give you an idea of the temp difference , when i got back home ( in a t-shirt i might add ) there was ice on the floor , the lowest ive seen it is 12 degrees but after the usual -4 in the uk this feels like the tropics0

Maybe something to do with favourable exchange rates.0 -

I like cold in the winter. I'd not want to live somewhere that is warm all year round.
Having said that, we tend to visit Israel in Jan / Feb time, when it is nice to get a burst of sun and warmth. Tel Aviv residents tend to be whinging about how cold it is (20 to 24 degrees, poor darlings)....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
