Online Banking Security

We are all used to entering a PIN & answering a couple of security questions when logging on to a bank's website.
I tried to log on to the LTSB website about 50 minutes ago & I entered the usual security details. Then I got the ''We are unable to recognise some of the characters of your security details'' message. I was asked to enter about 7 security answers including: full name/Acc.No./Sort Code/ 3 x Phonebank Express answers. I have never been asked so many questions in one go.
I don't use Phonebank since I registered online & I can't remember the answers.
Having tried twice I gave up & tried to log on to Sainsbury's Finance & I got the same response. I entered my details correctly but was still asked for all my security details in one go.
What are the odds on two different banks asking me for lots of security details within a 10 minute period. I am very suspicious. I am going to phone each bank later today to find out what is going on. I predict fun & games with LTSB because I no longer have my Phonebank details.
Has anyone else had an similar problems with either of the above banks in the very recent past?

Similar, but not the same; this bloke had problems with his LTSB password: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1121821Conjugating the verb 'to be":

I phoned Sainsbury's Finance & the advisor spoke to the online people about the problem. I never got to speak to them at all. I was told that they suspected a virus on my computer. I have run AVG.8 & that has shown no virus to be present. I went back online & entered the requested information & things appeared to be back to normal.
I then phoned LTSB & they took me through a lengthy procedure & passwords etc were changed. When I was asked to log on, to check that everything was OK, the request for 7 items of security info appeared onscreen. LTSB suspect that I was logged onto a fraudulent site so they have shut down my online banking.
I immediately phoned Sainsbury's Finance online helpdesk & told them what had happened at LTSB so S/F are changing my online access details. I will be getting a letter in the post with a new access code etc.
If no virus has been found using AVG.8 can anyone recommend an additional safe anti-virus dowload I can use to double check my computer. The fraudulent LTSB site was identical to the real site with the padlock symbol in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
This is all extremely worrying. I want to be able to use online banking safely without the risk of seeing all my money disappear into thin air.0 -
check out the Techie board for recommendations. I've personally never had a problem with AVG free edition. You also need t obe checking for malware/spyware etc.0
