    Hi,

Its a small local firm and the owner is a friend of my brother. This might be why he didn't ask for a deposit or contract.

I wish he had let me know that they would be bulkier then I might have looked at other options. Don't really know what to do now as the frames and glass are in my living room waiting to be fitted!

Thanks for all your help so far!

    Hi Lisa,

I would advise speaking to your Brother.

I'ts his mate that you are going to upset.

I understand the problem and agree that there are some pretty chunky/ugly windows that many, it seems, are quite happy to have. They make your fanlights look like letterboxes.

What he is describing is known as a 'Pole Bay' window and they come in slimline AND standard (Read Cheapo).

The window man has taken a huge risk getting (and paying for) these windows to be made up without a contract but he should have known better. Was his quote LOADS cheaper than elsewhere? I would also bet that they are EXTERNALLY glazed I.E. the glass can be removed from outside. Check and see if that is the same with your neighbor.

Your house is your home and you are never going to be happy with these fitted so stop him now, but give him the opportunity of supplying the more slim-line windows to help make up his loss but dont YOU feel guilty about his mistake. He shouldn't be in business if he can't listen to what you want.

If he doesn't play ball then f**k him and go elsewhere.

It took SafeStyle three attempts to get my windows right. And they fitted them each time. Must have cost them a fortune, as I'm sure I got a good bargain anyway.

If you've said you want them like next door then that's what you should get - or the supplier should tell you you can't have them like next door but could have such-and-such instead.
It may be that next door's windows aren't properly supported and were fitted by cowboys. This supplier may be doing you a favour by not supplying those ones. But he should at least tell you and give you the chance to cancel.

we have no contract. We asked for the same windows as next door and they are nothing like next doors.

You do have a contract ! A verbal Contract is just as enforceable as a written one. Tell your supplier, (in writing !) that he has broken the verbal contract that existed between you.

He's charging us just over £4000 to fit 2 bays a front door and back door and french doors. I know this is quite cheap but I didn't think it was cheapest of the cheap if you know what I mean!

I am afraid that you are wrong there ! A verbal contract is just as binding as a written one.
(Actually, to be really pedantic, I believe the correct term to be an "oral" contract.)

It may not be as easy to identify the terms of such a contract if it comes to a dispute - but it is just as binding. Just make sure you have some witnesses !
